I understand that companies have the power to impose dress codes. In this instance, I don't like it, but I understand it. It just sucks that she's been with the company for so long, and they're making her change. You could say that "no one's twisting her arm to work there," but she was with them before this crap showed up.

I don't think it's so much a thing of beauty as a thing of laziness... putting on makeup takes time, and I like sleeping in.

Wasn't makeup a medievel thing to cover up the filth that was on their bodies from not washing?

While I find it offensive, and I agree with whoever said to to boycott, companies have been making sexist decisions like this for years. I still see ads in the paper for "Receptionist - front office appearance." That usually translates to "Wanted - cute little ditz in a mini skirt and heels with a cute little giggle."

I find the decision offensive and excessive. I would understand if her appearance for 4 years rpior was totally unprofessional. However, that must not have been the case if she has been there for 4 years. I would think customers would want professional customer service over a blonde bombshell that may be a total schmuck or even worse rude to the customers and has yet to be caught.
I hardly ever wear makeup either unless it is for a special occassion that I personally feel warrants the need for it. I used to think that working in a casino would be one of the funnest jobs. Since reading this thread and the story on the GPAC website that I am a member of, I now know that is another job I will not pursue unless I know in advance that it will be my personality getting the job, not my looks. In a small way I know how this person feels. I was fired from a waitressing job only 3 days after I was hired. The boss stated it was because I was too slow for the weekend bar crowds, yet I had customers tell me afterwards that I was better than the veteran waitstaff that worked there. I also found out that the boss prefers his female staff members to wear skirts instead of pants and because I did not flirt with him or wear skirts, that was the reason for me being fired. The worst part was not the fact that I was fired but the way I found out. When I went to check the schedule for the coming week, it had in print "Kicked to the curb" next to my name for everyone to see. I hope this person wins her case in Supreme Court. I agree with the boycott idea.
