This is a bigger defeat than originally expected, too. As a result of the sweep in the 2004 elections, Conservatives were expecting at least 50 votes in support. Even that would be nowhere near the 67 votes needed to actually make it official.

I wonder what Senator Brownback thinks about the Massachusetts and Vermont, possibly California, and other states where people are refusing to amend their constitutions?



This issue was brought about by radical conservatives when George Bush tried to distract the American public in 2004 with his proposal to ban gay marriage, not by the courts. I believe this misuse of liberties and political capital will backfire.
