Asatru/Heathenism/Odinism doesn't get all that much respect and we don't get to put any of our symbols up anywhere, though, I can't imagine wanting to either. But I don't care who puts up what and where, as long as it is appropriate and responsible.

I do not understand why when this country allowed these things to be displayed in the first place with everyone wanting these symbols and statements of our religious cultural beginnings why there are a few who want it all out of their sight NOW...These are the same people who don't mind spending the U.S.currency with references to the God this country was founded on located there as well...OH I know it's coming...all these folks who don't want God 'thrown' in their faces everywhere...but THIS country was founded on common principals of religious beliefs...can you imagine if we moved to another country and it was founded on their faith that we could get away with wanting them to remove symbols that had to do with THEIR founding? Can you say PRISON...GETTING SHOT AT SUNSET...and a few other ways to punish intruders into something they have no right to mess with. Our government didn't just take place yesterday...OUR money wasn't just came up with yesterday either...but we do have things and places where our forefathers saw the reasoning for this to be so...perhaps they saw something in life some of those out there choose to ignore now? Why is it then that something can sit un-noticed,ignored,passed without a glance...then someone comes by and takes notice and crys foul...HOW in the world do you satisfy all the na sayers...what if they came into your home and said you have no right to display your music albums because they don't agree with the type of music you listen to...or perhaps your books....just how far should we allow this to take away our roots in our culture as Americans...we open our borders to all...for what? How do they show gratitude....I see nothing wrong with religious symbols as a Christian...I see no reason we couldn't display all the symbols of true faith that has to do with ALL our citizens because it has been added to our Nation as a whole...I do however see it as wrong to take something that has historical significance to our ancestors as well as to those who perhaps like what our forefathers had in mind when establishing this great nation.
Maize...I would have no problem with ANYONES religious heritage being displayed...why? Because it can be a good thing to show how this country has grown in our faith as well as in the faith of others who fled their own countries to come to a free nation. If they pay their due to this country (taxes) then they have the right to display their symbols of their faith in ANY public place...because those public places got there through our TAX dollars. |

But that's not what these people want. They want their 10 Commandments displayed and the second any other religion dared tried to display their religious symbols those same people would be screaming that it's anti-American and should be removed.

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me."
A prompt establishment of who is and who is not divine. Clearly not in accords with the establishment clause. "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth." That's just the first part. This does not correspond with common law. See Lady Liberty. In accordance with the rest of the commandment perhaps we should seek out the descendants of those who designed that grand statue and visit our iniquities upon them. "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." Are we still sending people to the courthouse for violating this commandment. "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." See above. The remaining commandments can hardly be considered unique or even original concepts of Judaism. So in their case displaying them should be fine. Even the adultery most often lies in the realm of divorce court. Also, if we prosecuted people for being covetous we would be prosecuting thought crimes. The few commandments that are a part of common law are not unique to Judaism. I guess I should be saying Christianity but Christians did not come up with these so who cares. It can be said that observing the sabbath, blasphemy and so forth used to be a part of law in some of the colonies. A part of law which were quick to be done away with for the sake of reason. Anyway, isn't a huge granite display of the 10 commandments a graven image? And why aren't the Jews the ones pulling for these displays in the first place? It's their religion. I don't get it. This country founded on Christian principles. Well, I guess that explains usury. |

Go ask the average the Christian if they would be OK with a copy of the Quran being on display at the courthouse.

Isn't the place for the 10 Commandments in a Church, not a courthouse?
If you have the 10 Commandments in the courthouse and on the Judge's robes- do you really think that an Atheist or a Hindu or a Muslim or anyone else would be getting as fair a trial- especially if the case was remotely religious? Quote:
I don't think having a copy of the Qur'an or a statue of Buddha would go over that well.
