as far as the torture situation and the media not speaking about it (very much that is) it is happening and it is not being talked about on our media like it should be. i think that there is a grain of truth in these stories. when i come across stories like this on sites like this, i inturn research and find out if there really is truth behind what they were talking about. in the case of torture and our military, even pbs did a doc. on it and interviewed troops involved. the troops themselves said that cameras are not in the rear of the armored trucks, nor are they in a box. they themselves flat out said that torture, rape and murder was and is going on. my point is that just because bbc or cnn are not reporting it does not mean that it is not happening.

The US secretary of state says the UN treaty on torture applies to American interrogators in the US and overseas, in an apparent shift in US policy.

The Bush administration has previously said the convention, which bans cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment, does not apply to US personnel abroad.

It is still pretty confusing as to what US stand is now. Some interprete that before Rice made the statement, US DID do what the rumours said she did. And now Rice is saying that US have a new standard now, and will not do that from now onward.
