You think the American public will have the stomach for more losses in Iraq, never mind a take over of the whole middle East ?

Before the start of the Iraq war, there was a prediction that this war is going to be like the Vietnam war. In the Vietnam war, the enemies are indistinguishable from the ordinary people, they may be normal farmers, workers during the day, and turned into gurilla fighters whenever it is safe to do so. Those who disagreed with the comparison said that in Vietnam, there are lots of forest and jungles for them to hide and operate from. In Iraq, there were no such thing. However, it appeared that somehow, the insurgents are able to blend in with the ordinary people as well, even though there is no place for them to hide and fight a jungle war.
Secondly, same as in Vietnam, no one likes a puppet government supported by a foreign country. National pride is inherent everywhere. Hence any government supported by a foreign power is deemed to be a traitor, and more and more people will oppose to that government. Hence Iraq is a war that can never be won by the US and coalition forces. US may have won the battle, and battles, but finally, US will have to withdraw from Iraq. It is a question of how to withdraw with honour, or looks like withdraw after winning the war. Bush has too much pride to start the war and then end the war by admitting that it is a war that can never be won straight out. So he is just in the rhetoric of repeating "War is Just", "War is good for US, Americans", "War is good for world freedom", when he clearly recognized that this war is leading no where, and the longer the US remained in Iraq, the more terrorist is going to be created. Very sad. Should not have started the war at all. Quote:

hmmmmm i wonder if this means that somewhere in the u.s. might just see a "terrorist attack"? kinda like spain england with the talks of leaving iraq and then boom there goes the bombs. after all bush's little war polls are in the toliet along with his overall job as president. seems like he needs another terrorist attack to get him back on top of the polls.

I don't think we'll see another terror attack until the next president is in office. The terrorists know that Bush isn't a coward and that he won't back down. Another terror attack would just increase his resolve. The only people terrorists can scare are cowards and that's what they feed on... fear.

I guess that's a valid point; but then, perhaps I could argue that England & Spain are much 'easier' targets, because travel into our countries are so much easier.
I hope for your sakes you are right; living in fear is awful. londoners put a brave face on after the first bombings, but the second lot (which didn't even 'work') made them wonder. they will still tell you that they are not afraid, but the traffic on the Underground railways has reduced.
