Political Money Line

Political Money Line is a financial watchdog group that moniters the flow of money between PACs and Corporations and our conressional representatives. There is a lot of interesting information here I think everyone, conservative and liberal, should be aware of.

The Federal Election Commission has made public the sua sponte submissions by attorneys for AMEC Construction Inc. AMEC paid a $85,000 civil penalty last month for campaign finance violations involving an employee reimbursement and bonus scheme that went back as far as the late 1980's. (See 10/22/05 article)

The newly released documents detail the federal candidates and committees that received $16,935 in contributions from 1998 through September 2003 (see page five). As we reported earlier, Hastert for Congress has already sent a $2,000 check to the FEC made payable to the U.S. Treasury. Ensign for Senate has also sent a $500 check to the Commission in November. The RNC sent a check for $685 to the Commission.

The documents also report on the information known about the reimbursement practices, the miscellaneous reimbursements outside the payroll system, the methodology used to distinguish reimbursed contributions from entirely lawful employee contributions, and the company's remedial actions. Attachments include the company policy statement and letter on management oversight.

The documents also include statements that an advisor from the tax practice of the public accounting firm known as KPMG discussed the expense report reimbursements and indicated that political contributions were not deductible business expenses and suggested that the company should provide bonuses to those employees making political contributions.

We get a lot of this sort of problem in the U.K, where large corporations 'donate' money to Political parties; the donations are always to be made public, but of course, there are some that never see the light of day..............

Political Corruption can only continue when the citizens are either apathetic or ignorant. When we're both, corruption is just insane.

I think corruption here makes us insane................

The trouble is, that if you know how, in the financial world, money can be very difficult to track - look at the problem tracking down drugs money launderers for a start..........

True. In the United States Senate, a majority of their reports are written on paper and kept in a file room in the Senate basement. You literally have to get a pass and search through hundreds of thousands of paper, written in unclear language (even to many lawyers) to figure out what they hell is going on.
