Muslims target The Movies

A man who identified himself as Omar Taliban contacted a local news agency and said the assault would serve as a warning for citizens to refrain from watching films, a practice he described as contrary to the teachings of Islam.

The latest developments represent a major setback for the Indian government, which had planned to progressively reopen cinemas, beauty parlors, and stores that sell alcohol, as a sign peace was returning to the troubled province.

There is another story that came out recently where radical muslims attacked McDonalds and KFC, saying that they represented evil America. Now it's the movies? Movies aren't Muslim? This is just awful and I cannot understand how one religion can be so willing to push it's tyrannical interpretation of morality onto everyone else. It's just horrible.

I hope I am correct in believing that it is not Religion that motivates these people; it is much more a case of 'an axe to grind', misguided beliefs about anyone other than themselves. And extremists, who use the Religious tag to cloak their own motivations.

Look at the Irish Catholic and protestant 'problem' - it is similar in motives. Years of indoctrination until there is no rhyme nor reason, just hate.

Well, I think it is clear that it is religion that drives these people. I'm not one of these guys that believes that Islam is any worse than any other religion, but there do seem to be a great deal more fundamentalists in Islam than any other religion. Even in the south, nicknamed the Bible Belt, it isn't that bad. While fundamentalist Christians prevent their own children from watching X or wearing X or doing X, they don't kill people that do or blow up buildings.

I it's not necessarily a problem with Islam, as American Muslims seem to be peaceful and tolerant of other faiths. But there is no doubt that Terrorism is encouraged by religious leaders all over the world. It's the largest problem we face today and what can we do about? We can't just go after Islam, because the Majority of Muslims are peaceful, but we can't just sit by as hate and violence are preached in Mosques throughout the world either. I don't have the answer, but I sure as hell hope that somebody else does.

I'll get even by corrupting his kids with intelligent ideas. They're the same kind of pathetic remnants who are banning or trying to ban spaghetti straps from the schools over here with people like me snickering in the background and suggesting that thongs and g-strings should be an elementary part of any good school uniform. Don't worry: most of these cats'll realize they're fighting for a lost cause when their kids start dressing in goth gear and happily singing that it's time for the intellectuals to declare their own jihad, blow up the holy city, and put the survivors into reeducation camps to teach them how to think for themselves. The reactionaries always wear down eventually because evil triumphs when good is dumb.

What do you call the Bush administration? Christians have the biggest guns, so they don't need to use guerrila warfare.

Maybe this was an anti-globalization terrorist? Bollywood might be the biggest film industry in the world, but big american business has toppled many an indigenous culture and industry.

it isn't meaningless. And someone who swallows so much propaganda as "terrorism is the biggest problem we face" undoubtedly is unlikely to appreciate a real problem when they see one. I say don't be stupid. i mean that as a piece of advice, not an insult. Terrorism is eye candy for an american, just good ol' thrilling t.v. That statement of yours really makes light of REAL north american problems(i beleive it's safe to say you care for little else), and worldwide problems that will liably get worse if everyone is so tightly focused on terrorists. It's a hoodwink for scarcity of water in the 3rd world, AIDS, unchecked corprate behaviour, global warming, etc. I think it's a funny statement to declare muslims peaceful with so much hand wringing. They're NO more peaceful than christians, and that's what's scary. If they ever get half as powerful, then you'll have something to worry about.
