Televangelist Calls for Chavez' Death (virgin, beliefs, followers, America)

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested on-air that American operatives assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club."
"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Unfortunately, the christian paradigm has since its inception been open to the notion of religious war. Within the context of his beliefs his statements make sense. Any ruler who would promote Islam over christianty is by definition an "anti-christ"

Isn't it kind of a nicety of US foreign policy that we don't go around whacking every foreign leader with whom we diagree? For Pat Robertson to suggest this sort of thing goes WAY too far, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, "The 700 Club" is taken seriously by millions of people, which is why I'm worried about this. It's not as if it's some unknown off-the-wall crackpot saying these things. It's a VERY well-known crackpot. ;-) Seriously, though, you see my point. Just because he's well-known, his followers will think he's right about this situation.

Now, I don't think any rational person agrees with Robertson, but since he is not a part of any government, I'm not sure why you threw in this gratuitious remark. I guess you are saying that religious people aren't allowed to have opinions regarding political issues. Perhaps you could clarify what 'seperation of church and state' has to do with one whack-job televangelist making a dumb comment.

Because he feels that the Government (state) should do this........and he feels he is speaking as a man of God (church), and as such is qualified to tell the state how to do it's job (lack of separation of).
