You're right he doesn't have to meet with her or even try to comfort her, and yes her son did join the armed forces on his own velition and died for his country. Should his family not be comended for having such a brave son? People wonder why the recruitment rate for the army is so low......why do think we have the national guard and reserves over there serving multiple tours? If the recruitment rate keeps dropping as it is, the draft could very well be reinstated. For every action there is reaction, Bush has made a decision and the woman he is refusing to see isn't the first, is it not irresponsible to rally the people to a common cause and turn your back when all they need is comfort......can he not look her in the eyes and tell her that her son died for a worthy cause?

Thats up to him, our country voted him into office, and unless he does something worthy of impeachment, he is the President.

Her son voulenteered for the the military.
How can he talk to every person about every persons problems in the US and still continue to do his job. Im not trying to support everything Bush has done. But I certainly can understand this.

Would it be good public relations if Bush singled out one woman to say her son did not die in vain or to tell the entire country that their sons and daughters are not dieing in vain like he has done on numerous occasions. I am also not a Bush fan but I don't think he has an obligation to Cindy Sheehan he has an obligation to the country. Would it be the right thing to do? Probably would. He has stated his stance on the war more times than I can count on my hands. I don't agree with a lot of his policies and I definitely don't agree with his decision to go to war but I feel like he doesn't owe anything more to this woman than he does to any other.

Good point, Turk. I also imagine, from a political standpoint, it might be simpler to get it over with rather than having so many people focus on the story. Sure, some people could turn around and whine "but he didn't say this or this to her", but then the Republicans could whine "but he met with her, when will you lot be happy?!" Or maybe meeting with her would draw even more attention to the story... Like I said, I'd never be good in office.
I understand what you mean, Crystallas. I think if the issue was the focus of "My son died!" instead of "My son died because of a lie you told" that his having volunteered for service would thus make the matter a moot point. Quote:

We went to war because he lied to us. When you do something bad, and killing someone is bad, then I think at the very least you could say "sorry."
