One of my favorite bimbo radio talk show hosts says, "Leftist ideas are not ideas so much as they are rebellions against reality." He goes on to say that he's never encountered a leftist idea that wasn't more feeling than thought. Is this characterization of leftist thought substantially correct? Is leftist thought more about feelings than reason? What do you think?

That's absolutely insane. I'm almost speechless.
*shakes head* Most right-wing ideas are, in general, far closer to being "rebellions against reality". Like "there is no such thing as global warning", "you bring freedom to people by bombing them", and "civil rights is a word used by hippy communists, and not what America stands for". It does seem though, that more and more, the battle between left and right is becoming a battle between two realities...people don't debate so much as they say "You're wrong! I'm right!". I mean, the left has a lot of irrational beliefs too, but that's like calling the pot calling the kettle black.

The bimbo talk show host I'm refering to is also an anti intellectual, which I find interesting. He is constantly attacking academia on the "grounds" that it is unrealistic and divorsed from reality. But, in my opinion, he doesn't do a very good job substantiating his view that academia is divorsed from reality. It seems that instead he just repeats his criticism over and over again.

EDIT: Yup, it's Dennis Prager. He just identified himself. He's saying, "For leftists, truth doesn't matter, feelings do."

IMO, neither side of the political spectrum is wholely without reason. I tend to be suspicious of people who argue that all reason is on their side and their side alone. That seems fundamentally at odds with reality.

Remember, talk show hosts, both left and right, sometimes say things just to get people upset. Good for ratings.
