Progressive ideas: Good or Bad?

Can you think of a progressive idea or ideology that has either replaced a conservative ideology, or was replaced by a conservative ideology, wherein the progressive way of thinking has resulted in the majority, or the nation, or the world being worse off than the conservative idea, in the long run?

Please don't flame on with baseless rants about liberals. i.e. "Lefties want pedophilia and to convert everyone over to homosexuality, thus exterminating the human race.". or. "Liberals want to force abortions on unwilling mothers.".

If you make a claim about an ideology, whether pro or con, then be prepared to have facts to back it up.

Hate to say it - and I think a lot of people will take exception to it, but weakening sexual morality was partially a result of progressive ideas.

That weakened morality has resulted in a population whose egos are largely in service of the id, rather than the superego, with endless promotion of moral relativism.

What's the divorce rate? Teen pregnancy (which, admittedly, has gotten better in recent years)? STD infection statistics? People who are sexually active but unhappy and unfulfilled?

I just want to say that I'm not even against promiscuity per se, some people may live promiscuously and thrive mentally, spiritually, emotionally, professionally, etc., but mostly I've just seen imbalanced people having empty sensory experiences because of emotional baggage. What I'm against is people being conditioned towards empty lifestyles, rather than one's they've deliberately reasoned out and chosen as applicable to them.

If I don't want something, and it's forced on me, isn't that bad?

If wealth and freedom redistribution are so important to make sure no minority of individuals go without, then why are the opinions, even of a minority of people, so unimportant that they're forced to go without the option of not participating in collectivism?

Don't give me that line about military, ambulance, police, fire fighters, etc., evils are divided into two categories; necessary ones and unnecessary ones.
