Animals aren't dumb. Even though color blind, if a deer, or some other animal, saw a break in the forest pattern, such as a big grey, black, or white figure, instead or the trees and leaves, it would run. The same goes for scent. If the animal smells anything that doesn't belong, it will know to run.
I've never heard of someone talk about an adrenalin rush from the hunting we do in America, but I have heard of it from people who have went on safaria hunts. A safaria hunt would put the person at danger, since the animals are generally bigger, faster, and stronger, and much harder to kill.
Lots of people drink and do different things. Some people who drink are average joes, some are rock stars, artist, engineers, architects, etc. But not everyone who drinks hunts, and not everyone who hunts drinks.
There is much history in gun collecting. Back in the wild west, when a gun was almost mandatory, much progress was made with guns. Around the time of WW1, automatics were starting to be more widly used. A true collector would get a since of pride owning an original colt, gatling, or any other revolutionary gun, or a gun who was owned by a famous person.
A gun beats a blade. So if some street punk pulls out a gun, a knife wont help, since youll be dead before you can get close enough to use it. If Im on the streets of a big city, I feel much safer knowing that I stand a chance in defending myself against some street punk.
What goals and desires can be acomplished with gun use, besides hunting, or some illegal activity? It wont help you get a job, a loan, becom a millionair, get a promotion, or make you a home owner.
I feel that respect for guns should be taught in school. That a gun should not be touched unless necesarry. It wont work entirly, but it would help.

You are just reinforcing the paranoia that comes with "wanting to jump in and fight for your country." The army does not need your sawed off shotgun for the record. They are doing just fine on their own. However, there is a state militia in your home state just dying to meet people who think just like they do. Please don't encourage them.
I didn't say animals are dumb. I said they are colorblind. When an animal detects people they usually know with their nose or hearing long before their sight. I also said that many hunters if not most, dressing up in cammo are playing GI Joe and living in a fantasy land. One can buy bright orange suits for hunting which is much safer but unfortunately doesn't fuel the GI Joe fantasy .
Every hunter talks about an aderline rush. It is natural to get a rush from killing just as it is from escaping danger. What is dangerous is that the hunting culture talks about "kicking tail" aka the aderine rush but than the political arena pretends no such emotion or aderline dump exits. That to me is very unethical in a presentation.
"A gun beats a blade? " Are you kidding me? You argue that hunters don't have the GI Joe fantasy and throw in " A gun beats a blade?" Who cares. I don't. You might if you fanatasyize about kicking tail when the street punk jumps you. Unfortunately, many times the "street punk" turns out to be a fellow drunk, a guy looking at your girls bottom ect ect.....
The goals and desires from gun ownership are sometimes honorable. They include recrational hunting when appropiate, and smithing. But many times they are not. I call it the bernie Goetz's syndrome. He was the nut who shot 4 kids on the subway in NY in the 1980's. All I am saying is that if we are going to look at gun control as a nation we need to see that
1) We do have a problem with gun based fatalites in the USA
2) We as a culture do not acknowledge the emotions that comes with gun owernship. Those feelings of power, control and pretatory behavior
3) Guns that exist here should have a purpose. Nobody needs a semi auto rifle or sawed off shotgun. If there is not a hunting purpose there is more harm than good for having it here at this time in our american "kick tail with my big gun" culture.
