Default Another Explosion in Beirut

Huge Explosion Rocks Beirut

If you thought that Hariri's assassination was only a once-in-a-lifetime thing, you're wrong. We have a record for explosions, and barely ten years went by before the assassination attempt on Marwan Hamadi.Well, I've got to live with it.

Oh, I went down on Monday 14th to the demonstration. I saw a Saudi Arabian flag . It was so amazingly crowded. Some people were even coming in by boat! Now, Hizbullah, Amal, etc. didn't want this to happen, and even paid bus drivers in the Beqa'a not to take anyone. There were some people that left Tripoli for Beirut, normally a 2 hour trip, and reached there after about 6 hours.

Also, I think you might find it interesting that I heard the explosion that killed Hariri at my school. It's not in Beirut and it takes about half an hour to reach Beirut. But now I've decided I heard it. Why? Well, I heard a noise, not very loud, and had no idea what it was. I thought maybe it was the sound of people playing basketball and hitting something with the ball. But at the back of my mind, I didn't believe it. After break, when we all went to class, they said there'd been an explosion.

And lastly, I'm going to take part in a march tomorrow. Basil Fleihan's situation is critical and serious and he's on artificial life support. I hope you'll all pray for him. And if you live in New York, there is going to be a church service (obviously because he's Christian, but who cares? Even atheists can go, not to pray obviously, but to show that they hope he gets better). For more information, go to Basil's Website.

And I almost forgot, here are some pictures of the explosion:

I got punished, so I couldn't go.

Isn't it amazing that it seems people don't care about explosions anymore? For your information, this isn't Iraq. And if you want us to go back to the time when civilians were massacred and cluster bombs were dropped on orphanages and hospitals, fine. Because that's how it was less than 3 decades ago.

Maybe I should make a poll or something......that would allow more people to have a look and post. One person it seems cares about an explosion. And if you say you weren't online, there are plenty of people who were.

Sorry if I sound too angry. I've just gone past the boiling point......

I hadn't even noticed this thread till just now. There's a lot of threads that come and go .

I don't really know what to say on the matter either. At this point, any sentiments on how bad it was will simply ring hollow .

Sorry, I was just in a bad mood that day. I really should try and control my temper...............

Okay, here's the list so far: One explosion near Saint-Georges Hotel, another in New Jdiedy, and another still in Kaslik. How lovely.

So what do you think, Is someone trying to set the clock in Libanon back into a bloody civil war? Do you think the lebanese are going to fall for it? Again?
Well, I'm quite sure it's good old Syria. They would benefit, in one way or another.

Have a look:

U.N. Report Quotes Threat By Assad to Harm Hariri
Syria Is Blamed for Tone Preceding Slaying

By Colum Lynch
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, March 25, 2005; Page A01

UNITED NATIONS, March 24 -- Syrian President Bashar Assad threatened former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri with "physical harm" last summer if Hariri challenged Assad's dominance over Lebanese political life, contributing to a climate of violence that led to the Feb. 14 slayings of Hariri and 19 others, according to testimony in a report released Thursday by a U.N. fact-finding team.

The report, which calls for an international investigation into Hariri's death, describes an August meeting in Damascus at which Assad ordered the Lebanese billionaire to support amending Lebanon's constitution, according to testimony from "various" sources who discussed the meeting with Hariri. The amendment, approved Sept. 3, allowed Emile Lahoud, the Syrian-backed Lebanese president, to remain in office for three more years.

Assad said that "Lahoud should be viewed as his personal representative" in Lebanon and that "opposing him is tantamount to opposing Assad himself," the report states. Assad then warned that he "would rather break Lebanon over the heads of" Hariri and influential Druze political leader Walid Jumblatt "than see his word in Lebanon broken."
See how much power they've got? They wanted to kill Hariri, they did. Anyone hear about the UN report?
