JOY is floating high above the clouds,
No weights to pull her down. HAPPINESS scales the highest peaks with ease, On her face she wears no frown. WONDER is roaming the woods today, CURIOSITY by her side. Together they see things they have never seen, Their eyes are open wide. LOVE sits back and watches them all, His satisfaction is clear to see. For LOVE is the reason, LOVE is the one; LOVE has set them free.

IMO, this is surely among the top five poems posted on RF so far, by anyone, very much including me, and might even be the best of all.
The poem combines innocence and sophistication, simplicity and profoundity. Ever line in it is true, which is quite an accomplishment in itself, you go beyond truth alone, Bastet, to make truth beautiful in words. That's genuine, deep poetry. Genuine beauty made visible in word. The very first thing that struck me about the poem is how Greek it is: Wonder, Curiosity, etc are all personified, all given personalities, all made into sprites or deities. The second thing that struck home was the sense of liberation I felt reading this poem, and how perfect that feeling was given the mere message of the words: the liberating, transforming, affirming qualities of love. Obviously the poet has loved. Obviously the poet has captured a truth about love. And obviously the poet has matched that truth to word in an act of beauty. The poem ranks well above good, acceptable, fertile horse manure: it is indubitably the exceptional, authentic, esteemed elephant dung. (I certainly hope you don't mind my using my own private words for "good" and "beyond outstanding" here, Bastet darling).

It's poems like this that make me wish that I could put my thoughts into words better. I just don't feel that anything I can say would amount to how much I liked it!
I could so easily see this being made into a visual masterpiece as well as your written one. It would make a beautiful mural! As Phil noted, the various feelings are given their own personalities. If you ever do a follow-up to it, I think I'd hope that you'll include Delight, as that's how the poem made me feel.

That really is a wonderful poem. I'm presently working on a website for someone who wants to allow people like us to post our poems and shortstories, and have them listed for sale. So magazines can look for fillers and such, you could sell either the copyright for your poem for a big price, or just sell for the use of it to be printed in a magazine or flyer. I'm really excited about being a part of it. And I think this would be a great candidate for such a thing.
I will let everyone know when the site is up and running, there are a lot of you who definitely talented enough to be paid for your work. |
