Furious Prose (Earth, bless, heaven)

I stand at the edge of the great precipice, looking out over the celebrated cities of Man and despair. For across the blessed and glorious earth, mother of all, the minds of the living have turned to useless and idle thoughts. I see courage recoiling, hope waning and dreams fading into the stiff, rocky terrain of mediocrity. Black clouds crawl across the heavens, shielding all living things from the valor of the sun. The forests are thinned, the waters are poisoned as acid sickens the rain. An anger is awakened in the hearts of all. An anger bred of shame and ignominy thick as molasses, strangling the lively songs of the heart until at last all song has ceased and a great and terrible silence envelops the land. Alas, I see the armies of fear and apathy at the walls of civilization. I hear the deep drums hammering raucously in the darkness. The corpse of culture smells of sulfur and suffering, and the gods howl in righteous desolation! Is this the end?

I love dark and depressing; my Mother always used to say that came from my Russian ancestry. That isn't half as dark and depressing as some of the stuff I write; besides, dark and depressing doesn't mean anything - it is just one form of art.

I usually try to stay upbeat... but every once in a while, I look at the world and think, "damn... is this really all we are capable of?" and then I feel sad.

Darkdale goodman, perhaps your thoughts are encouraging end of times and willing a new heaven and a new earth.
