imagine the old "buck rogers" stargates, an electromagnetic tube that accelerates a ship to .9999 lightspeed. and at the other end, another stargate that receives ships, decelerating them to normal "cruising" speed by absorbing the kinetic energy (storing it, so as to use it to send another one out).
i saw calculations for this type of space travel once, the indications were that passengers would experience a time dilation, so that their journey would only seem a mere .99 seconds long. while their trip has taken years of "earth time". clearly, the mind would only experience the .99 seconds, not the years it took from the perspective of an earthling. ![]()

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a continuously operating experiment in both special and general relativity. Corrections using Relativity have to be done on a continuous basis, otherwise the info you would get from a GPS would be off as much as 10% in certain cases.
