"In the Shadow of the Leaves" is a book I've been reading for awhile. It's a book that have sayings and little stories from a Samurai era of Japan. I love this book and though it's hard at time to connect with what they saying grow up in a western culture, I feel that I have a little better understanding of a part of the wold and a time in history that is really interesting to me.
What I would like to do in the thread is share something from the book. I will post a passage from the book, I'm going to do this in the morning before I go to work, but I will do one right now too.
This one caught me today:

"It is a good viewpoint to see the world as a dream. When you have something like a nightmare, you will wake up and tell yourself that it was only a dream. It is said that the world we live in is not a bit different from this.

Discuss, ^_^. Next one comes early tomorrow morning. Oh, and I must say I did kind of get the idea for this from A_E's Greek word of the day.

I have that book, but havent opened it in a while. bought it after seeing "Ghost Dog"

I like that. In a way, this is exactly what our worldview is: a dream. A model of sensory data collected and categorized.

You'd enjoy Taisen Deshimaru's The Zen Way to the Martial Arts.

Couldn't find it, but I did pick up Zen in the Martial by Joe Hyams.

Samurai era impressed me much. IMO they were so noble, simple and direct. anyways...this quote you made actually matches Islamic view of world. i don't know how it's possible but yea...world is a dream, we are asleep. when we die we wake up and realize it was just a dream that lasted very very short....

And thank you for sharing. There are quit a few thing like this that are shared by many cultures and religions. So it doesn't surprise me.
