"In the Shadow of the Leaves" is a book I've been reading for awhile. It's a book that have sayings and little stories from a Samurai era of Japan. I love this book and though it's hard at time to connect with what they saying grow up in a western culture, I feel that I have a little better understanding of a part of the wold and a time in history that is really interesting to me.
What I would like to do in the thread is share something from the book. I will post a passage from the book, I'm going to do this in the morning before I go to work, but I will do one right now too. This one caught me today: "It is a good viewpoint to see the world as a dream. When you have something like a nightmare, you will wake up and tell yourself that it was only a dream. It is said that the world we live in is not a bit different from this. Discuss, ^_^. Next one comes early tomorrow morning. Oh, and I must say I did kind of get the idea for this from A_E's Greek word of the day. |

"It is bad to carry even a good thing too far. Even concerning things such as Buddhism, Buddhist sermons, and moral lessons, talking too much will bring harm."

What nobody wants to discuss this at all
. Maybe this will get your attention. "If you cut a face lengthwise, urinate on it,and trample on it with straw sandals, it is said that the skin will come of. This was heard by the priest Gyojaku when he was in Koyto. This is information to be treasured." |

Okay I missed a day so I'll do two. "When delivering something like an important letter or other written materials, grasp it firmly in your hand as you go and do not release it once but hand it over directly to to recipient." "A retainer is a man who remains consistently undistracted twenty-four hours a day, whether he is in the presence of his master or in public. If one is careless during his rest period, the public will see him as being only careless.(Note: I believe this one can apply to anyone.) |

Samurai era impressed me much. IMO they were so noble, simple and direct. anyways...this quote you made actually matches Islamic view of world. i don't know how it's possible but yea...world is a dream, we are asleep. when we die we wake up and realize it was just a dream that lasted very very short....thanks for sharing interesting to see it matches with my knowledge. .
