1 : something to which a person or thing is destined : FORTUNE 2 : a predetermined course of events often held to be an irresistible power or agency (Merriam Webster) Since I believe in Reincarnation, and that each of our corporeal lives are for a specific purpose or lesson, yes, I do believe that Destiny exists. I don't believe that it is cast in concrete though; I belive that people have the ability to follow a predestined path. It is not guaranteed that they will do so in the way so as to achieve the best 'destiny' (nort a very good way of putting it). What I mean is that I believe that our every action, from birth to death, is predestined. However, since we have free will (in my opinion), our path through life can be compared to a chess game. For each opening move of a game of chess, there is a set number of responses (all predictable if the player has sufficient concentration and ability to think in the way so as to do that), and to each one of those......ad infinitum. I never was good at the laws of chance, there fore I have no idea what the chances of a particular fourth move are, but the figures, I know are astronomical. What does distort the figures is that if both players have learned certain masters' moves, the chances are reduced. So, I would say that we all have potential destinies, from the minute we are born, but have the free will to change that destiny at any time in our lives (Time and time again). Quote:
For destiny to be cast in stone would take away any form of freedom of choice (Therefore voiding the whole point of life), therefore, I don't believe in that.

the everything happens for a reason rule. You let the apple fall from the treee and you can calculate exactly where it will fall. the more variables you use in your calculations, the closer you'll get to the exact spot. If you take them all, you got the exact spot. If this works for everything on the planet, BANG, you get destiny..

I believe in statistics as a middle ground for free will and predestination. All of the external forces and baggage from previous experience lead to an X percent chance of a person acting in a certain way. Subtract X from 100 and you get Y... the percent chance that the person will act against X and express free will.
