Some shamans believe that when something is given from nature, their spirit (or a replicate of their spirit) is put into that item be it a branch, rock, feather, etc.... But this is only done when the spirits allow. I wonder how much of our jewelry is just dead, or alive. If you know it is alive, how many spirits do you wear?

I practice a specific branch of dowsing ( I use a pendulum ). I can 'pick up' virtually anything using the pendulum; if you're interested, look up 'radiesthesia'. If I take an original painting, and have a photo of that same painting' I can use the pendulum to identify the 'elements' of both items. Perhaps will not be surprised to learn that whilst the 'photo reveals each of the minerals, materials that make up the composition of the photo itself, whilst, If I do the same procedure over the original painting, not only will I 'pick up' the minerals and materials, but I will 'pick up' the sex of the artist, his 'mood' as he was painting etc...... which brings us to what you were talking about from another perspective. The artist's character is an endemic 'essence' of the painting itself. I hope you found the above interesting. ![]()

I am very familiar with dowsing, both using the pendulum, and with those two sticks (forget the names). The spirits always taught me that inanimate objects have no spirit of their own, but they reflect the spirit of those most close to it. This is the reason why the moon has no spirit of its own, but it reflects the suns energy differently at the different phases making the full moon its most powerful phase. I would go even farther and say, one can tell the spirit of the composer by listening to his music. But I am not talking about paintings. I'm talking about stuff you wear everyday. For a shaman everyday, everyminute is sacred. Thus everything he wears is sacred. ANd for the shaman the spirits will imprint their soul in say, the leather used for a belt, or the stick used for a charm, wand or staff, etc... I wonder with the way everything is made these days, if everything everyone wears is dead? Sure we may walk and think everything is sacred, but we wear dead clothes. Are we hypocrites?

I would say the moon has its spirit, too, but I'm kind of biased that way, hehee.
I have my medicine bag with me at all times, and that carries my spirit and those close to me. I have also shared spirit with a fox-tail that used to be a part of my rattle, but chose to seperate itself. (I think it wants to be on my regalia, instead, though I've yet to journey to see what that will be.) And, of course, the feathers that I wear in my hair are an extention of myself and the bird spirits that I asked permission to wear them from. (My great-uncle was a 'water- witch', a professional dowser, so I find the mention of that interesting, hehee!)

Point taken. And now that I have thought more about what you wrote, I can see that my reply was irrelevant; hypocrites?-I'm not sure I understand your question; maybe I'm out of my depth with this one.

The hypocrites I was talking about are the ones who claim to believe everything should be considered sacred, yet they wear manufactured clothes (like me) that have no spirit. Same as, how I hate the impact internal combustion engines have on the environment, yet I drive a car everyday to school and work.
Feathers, alot of people wish the moon has its own spirit. But it is just one big rock with a little gravitational pull, the phases reflect the suns energy and therefore we have the different energies of the phases. I know some who worship the moon goddess, but they are simply worshipping the reflection of the suns energy. This doesn't take away importance from the moon, for if the moon wasn't there, there would be no reflection at all and we would have no light at night, nor would we have any lunar craziness.

well I for one know my vehicle has a spirit! Its spirit is so stong that when I talk to it I don't call it a Van I call it a "pony". If I slip it starts getting cranky.
![]() I have many sacred things, some I wear so I don't. Some I wear don't get allong well with others that I also wear, so I can't just mix and match. wa:do

I haven't thought of a name for it yet... or maybe it hasn't thought of one for itself. Master Vigil, I guess I'm not sure how manufactured clothes can't have spirit. For example, my friend, Standing Bear, has participated in groups that use teddy bears to 'test.' They buy manufactured stuffed animals from random stores, and weigh them with a scientific scale. The control group of pretend critters get held and carried around, while the test group of animals has people focus love and positive intent on them, while also holding them. After a time (I think it was a week or so) they weigh both sets and compare them to their original statistics. The control bears invariably weigh the same, while the test bears are a few ounces heavier. When the test is over, the group then donates the 'loved' animals to childrens' organizations, then fills the test group with love and donates those as well. (They're no longer needed for the testing, so if you're gonna donate something, why not give it healing energy first?) And I don't think you're being hypocritical. A lot of people can't afford non-manufactured clothes.
