Happy Solstice, all! Bring on the longer days!
My sister and her husband (both of whom are more or less agnostic) have a Solstice dinner every year with friends. She tells me it's to urge the sun to come back and she insists that every year they've done it, it's worked. Every year summer has returned!

Well, we must all have different calendars or something. My calendars and almanacs say that Yule is today. So for anyone else out there who are celebrating Yule today...Happy Yule!

Right. I think the Solstice is the point in time when the earth is farthest from the sun. Here in Utah, it was sometime between 6:00 and 7:00 at night on December 20. But the "first day of winter" was the following day, because it was the first full day after the Solstice began.
