I've been searching for the right spiritual path for a long time now. Various practices have been appealing, but so far paganism seems the most appealing, the best fit, though I still have more researching to do, and I need to connect with a pagan community. The following is a journal entry I wrote last night on the subject. I wanted to see what others thought.
---- August 5, 2007 I really enjoy watching Logo, a channel representing the LGBT community. It's wonderful to see the vibrancy that so many of us in the LGBT community have -- including me, when I come out of my shell. I feel so fortunate to be a gay man, especially in these times, when we are finally beginning to overcome, though we still have a long way to go. Watching Logo also makes me sad, however. I feel so lonely out here in this hate-filled state. But I'm starting college this month, and I plan to become an active part of the gay community there. Something about the gay community -- LGBT rather -- seems spiritual to me. To laugh, to love, f***, dance, celebrate, to be one's self in the midst of hatred, fear, and lies...that is a beautiful thing. And I think that is why Christianity just doesn't fit for me. It doesn't make me feel connected to life (though it may work for others.) Spirituality should direct me to the Beauty within without dogma and legalistic rules. Christianity seems too "separate" to me. I'm looking for experience, peace, celebration, acceptance. And that is what I love about the LGBT community -- celebration of LIFE! Acceptance of sex, of those who are different, who can't fit into gender roles. Strength, joy, diversity, the power to be DIFFERENT in the face of hate. (Certainly we don't always meet our ideals, but I think these qualities help the movement as a whole.) I think many of the qualities the LGBT community is known for fit in nicely with my notion of what spirituality should be and could serve as a foundation in searching for my path. I think I want to explore paganism. ---- |

I think it's heartfelt and a wonderful expression. I find that in a lot of Pagan communities there is a distinct overlap with the LBGT community, and especially on campus (though, I guess it depends where you go).
