I have a slight problem with the chakras, and it seems that the fates don't want me to read about it in a book, as every time I've gone to look for one there aren't any.
The problem is the crown, when I try to work with it, I get this serious headache, bordering on migraine. Because of the headaches, I've stopping working with the chakras entirely. I'd move through the others fine, but when I get to the crown, there's a sharp stab of pain that needs to be slept off. The other part of it is even if I'm not working with the crown, but putting any pressure on it at all will cause me a severe headache. Like when GC rests his chin on my head when he's holding me. Am I doing something wrong, am I that imbalanced? Or is there something else?

It sounds like you do have an imbalance, and that your meditations might have underlying urges to "push the issue."
![]() From about.com, which approaches chakra healing from a more pagan-flavored method by using gemstones: Quote:
http://healing.about.com/library/uc_chakras_0106.htm It sounds like you've become quite aware of kundalini power. Be very very careful with it............it's like playing with fire. (I don't know how useful my advice is to you, so take it however you'd like). Channeling it well and knowing how exactly to direct it and also how to ignite it when the energy is sluggish is one thing. But opening yourself full-force to it is rather like taking a blowtorch to a forest. Misuse of kundalini can short-circuit your psychic centers, and you'll need more healing and nurturing in order to recover IMO. Where your tradition and mine might perhaps line up nicely is the awareness of the planets and - especially - the moon and their positions in the sky. Tibetans take their astrology quite seriously, and we often need to be aware of "auspicious" days of the month, and this includes awareness of how one should approach meditation practices. Meditating on the chakras during a full moon or a new moon can also generate more intense physical sensations, as well............at least I've been aware of that in my own experience. Hope that helps somewhat. Or at least give you some ideas to consider. I want you to stop suffering from migraines from your spiritual practices. Opening the crown chakra is rather, ahem, mind-blowing. And I'd love for you to experience it without the pain.Peace, Mystic |

A great and wise Guru – Sri Vasudeva, founder of the Blue Star Yoga Ashram, went through the very same thing. B.S.Y.A. was founded in Trinidad but now has centers around the world. This is what he has told his followers -
The crown chakra is the highest chakra. When that chakra is opened, one attains Moksha whilst still alive. Very few people have the crown chakra open, only very spiritual people. When this chakra is opened, one lives in constant awareness of God. It’s like attaining liberation whilst still alive. Most people attain liberation after death. With most people, the kundalini energy can move to the second highest chakra and go back down to the lower chakras. It can move up and down. When the kundalini opens the highest chakra – the crown, the kundalini never goes back down. Guruji Sri Vasudeva went through similar experiences as yours when his crown was being opened. He had excruciating headaches. I think he even mentioned that he just wanted to hit his head with a hammer. It is an extremely painful process. So, what you are going through is normal. You are indeed blessed that your crown chakra is being opened. Just try to maintain spiritual thoughts. Sri Vasudeva is a highly spiritual man. If you want you can email Sri Vasudeva to get advice. His email address is bluestar@tstt.net.tt and his website is http://www.blue-star.org/ Tell him that you met Hema on a forum. Tell him that I am Kamal’s daughter. Tell him that Kamal is the man who is almost always the first one to give a contribution whenever he asks for comments from his audience.

I have a book "Kundalini and The chakras" By Genevieve Lewis Paulson from which I understand that some of the symptoms which may indicate an excessive release of Kundalini are:- Erratic Behaviour An inability to cope with everyday life Excessive mood swings (depression or ectacy) Chills and hot flashes. Loss or distortion of memory.. well, the list goes on, but the above seem to fit in with how I feel.......... Unfortunately, the book doesn't advise on how to get back "In balance" - do you have any advice?

Personally? I could go on all day, as I have tried and true experiences within my own framework (and I've experienced some of the same, too). *blushes* I have the idea that because so much of kundalini is focused entirely on "raising" it, and the shakti power as it's called in Eastern traditions, that I believe that only focusing on that energy and activation alone is by itself one-sided. I think this is where I part ways theologically with Hema, with all due respect..........just as there is the raising of awareness through the chakras to unite with God-consiousness, I believe there must also be a "descent" from Spirit (crown) toward Matter (perineal or base). I have heard this kind of opening of the chakras "illumination" from God, and maintaining of kundalini in a constant state of arousal doesn't allow the Spirit to descend into crystallization. See..........this is where my totally tripped-out "Mystic" side is revealed. It's the kind of philosophy of the likes of Ken Wilbur who, as awe-inspiring intelligent and wise as he is, that I feel leaves out something so vital that Western religions and philosophy gives us. Wilbur often times describes our evolution as the ascencion of the chakras from the base to the crown, and that with each step we get closer and closer to "Truth." The Crown being the ending goal. It's been somewhat trendy to kick the idea that we need that polarity of "God's" illumination to us, and that it's our duty somewhat to "unite" with God by ascending upwards. As much as that DOES offer spiritual growth and awakening, the illumination of "God-Consciousness" to enter us is just as important, I feel. The bowing, the submission, the humility, the reverence cools the "fire" of kundalini, and allows this light to shower "down" upon us. I feel that this is a great asset of Abrahamic religions (how I see them), or one could look at the Dance of Shiva (the masculine face of God), where receivers find great spiritual growth, too. Of course, favoring this approach over kundalini energy creates imbalance, too IMO. ![]() I feel this needs to be a balanced approach, that our kundalini is called upon to activate the chakras from the base up to the crown, but that the "serpent" needs to take a rest, so to speak, in order to allow Spirit to enter us. What happens when one uses a fire with a chimney flue non-stop, or uses too big a fire for the flue? I doubt if this is a good example.........I might think of a better one later, but that's off the top of my head. So, my advice for anyone feeling rather "burnt out" from kundalini fire? Do some prostrations. LOL Other advice off the top of my head: 1) Meditate on the cooling clear light from above to enter the crown and to fill your channels like a stream flowing steadily. 2) On that note, prevent dehydration by drinking plenty of water. 3) Detoxify the body to clear the channels again by eating more alkaline-based foods. 4) Take a break, meet up with friends, engage in other activities and allow "truth" to reveal itself to you in it's own time. I am but a young pup, though, so I could be WAAAAYYYYY off base, but this has helped me so far in my journey. Peace, Mystic |

That's what I've done. My holistic doc has used a combination of techniques to work on the crown chakra -- glasses the that are the proper color (indigo), tuning forks at various frequencies, and things that most Americans would consider quackery, except for...it works. In addition, we've looked at nutrition, detoxification methods, she's used kinesiology (which has significant roots in ayurvedic medicine) to put the system back in balance, and oddly, one of the biggest sources of imbalance was the scars on my foot from neuroma surgery. Go figure. I heartily agree with the others who have posted on this thread -- be very very careful messing around with chakras. There's a reason people who work with them basically apprentice themselves to someone who knows what they're doing. Reading a book on chakras is useful, surely, but then deciding to work with them is kinda like reading a book on surgery and deciding to do an appendectomy on someone. ![]() Oh my! I don't believe it -- there are a few videos on YouTube about basic kinesiology techniques. Ignore the sales pitch, but see what the technique involves in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t1qa...elated&search= Try and get this down with a friend doing the testing on you. Hold various things up against your chest, like the video says. Now, once you've gotten used to the technique, here is a *safe* way to try and put your system back in balance. You find the spot on your head that hurts and touch it. Have your friend test you. If you test weak -- you've found the first spot. Now comes the harder part. You have to find the 2nd spot, where you'll test strong. While *you* touch the spot on your head (and you don't have to press or anything -- just touch it), have your friend use his non-testing hand to find another spot on your body where, when he's touching that, you test strong. Once you've found that, just hold those 2 spots for a while to help put the energy back in balance. Sometimes it will feel like your head, or even your entire body, is unwinding, if you can find the right places. (If you have any scars, test those out -- scar tissue can really intereferes with the body's electrical system.) On me, usually it's my stupid foot scar, though sometimes it's the ilio-coecal valve (if I've eaten something I shouldn't) and occasionally it's one of the organs. Sometimes it my occiput. It's very different for everyone. Now, a trained kinesiologist doesn't have to do so the guesswork, because they'll look for the 2nd spot according to accupuncture meridians. A good kinisiologist seems like a mind reader. If you've been to M.D.s, it's really strange to go to see another doc, who when you walk in the door, looks you over and tells you what your complaint is, rather than ask you what's going on. I wish there was more I could do online to explain the sorts of techniques. If I lived anywhere nearby, within an hour I could teach you a lot. Even if you can't figure a way to make kinesiology work for your headaches, this technique is useful for many things. If you buy herbs and vitamins or even pharmaceuticals, you can test out whether any particular brand will do anything for you. Just put it to your chest and have someone test you. If you go weak -- you're wasting your money. It's even more interesting when you know something is wrong that you want to correct. I know where the virus point is, so if someone's coming down with a cold, I touch the virus point, put whatever herb to their chest, and see if they weaken or get strong to it. (Touching the virus point along they'll be weak.) If they test strong, then that remedy will work for them. It can change from one year, or even one virus, to the next, so I test every time. It's been a real life saver. No one here gets a cold anymore for more than a couple of days, and by "cold" I mean they just feel like they need to rest more, and maybe have a teeny sore throat or occasional sniffle. We don't go to regular doctors anymore or take drugs -- we head major problems off at the pass. Oh yes, one last thing -- magnetic interference. We're surrounded by electromagnetic fields all the time, and some poeple need to wear or carry low power magnets to offset those fields. You can test to see if you need a magnet by just putting your hand on a light switch or holding a cell phone. Have your friend test you -- if you're weak, you need a magnet. Now, a holistic doc will sell you a magnet for anywhere between $15-20, but you can do your own. Try one of those rubbery refrigerator magnets. Touch the light switch again, while holding the other magnet. If you test strong -- it'll do. Just keep it in your pocket all the time. Also, you can get magnetic hematite beads and incorporate it into jewelry. You do the same technique holding one magnetic bead. If that doesn't work, hold 2. Then 3...so on until you find how many you need to get strong again. That's how many beads you can put in a braceless or necklace, or just safety pin on you somewhere. I'm the only one in my family that doesn't need a magnet. My son -- computer geek extraordinaire, is unusual in that he needs 2. |

A good detox bath, especially if you're coming down sick or for pain is the ginger bath. 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup sea salt (regular salt is ok...just not quite as good), and 2 tablespoons powdered ginger, or fresh grated ginger (tie it up in cheesecloth or an old nylon, though). Soak for 20 minutes and rub down your skin to open the pores. Another good daily detox (espcially for heavy metal toxicity and the liver) is: 1 tablespoon olive oil, 3/4 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (do not substitute with other vinegar!) and the juice of half a lemon. I do this in the morning. If it's too puckery for you, put it on your salad. ![]() And *ahem* there's the ever-popular...coffee...enema. ![]() edit: Oh dear! I thought I was in Health & Healing, not the DIR Pagan forum. I can fork this post over to where it belongs if needed. |
