Dopp has graciously agreed to rescue me from talking with Angellous on another thread about the Word of God. Dopp will be much more stimulating I am sure.
It will likely be more of a discussion than a debate, but debate is of course allowed here. First, remind me about yourself, dopp. You are a Houston lawyer with a philosophy degree, right? Of course, you know me, I am finishing up a Ph.d. in New Testament and Early Christian literature. I like ancient and modern philosophy, with most of my focus on the Stoics and Gadamer. We both love Nietzsche, but you know him much better. ![]()

In what sense do mean to call something "The Word of God", Nathan?

For me the word of God is ineffible. It is something about the unknown and unknowable that pierces through all the white noise of history and philosophy, giving shape to us in our unknown and unknowable self.

Quote:
The command to "know thyself" is therefore impossible. There are parts of us that we cannot know like we know other things. Perhaps philosophy can lead us there a bit, but it has not yet captured the soul.
