The suggestion is that we undo the War of Northern Aggression and return to a nation of separate states unequal and liking it.
![]() Seriously. Here are details. Now that is an intriguing idea. I would like to see it posted on RedState.Com. I can't post it. I'm banned forever there. (Something about disrespecting religious faith. )Anyway, taking the idea seriously it makes sense in a kind of 18th century way. |

I'm sure they make some kind of contribution to the country. And it would be unfair to abandon the minority groups living in that area.

All in all, it might not be such a bad thing if the South seceded.

As long as they don't go re-instating slavery, I'd rather not be carrying their water any more.

Really sad to see how much ignorance of the south is being displayed here. If you cannot see what the south contributes then let me inform you. Not overlooking the abundance of food supplied by the warmer climates in the south we will just take Georgia for example........We have the CDC and Emory University in Atlanta (useless I am sure ), Delta Airlines is based here, Home Depot, UPS and AT&T mobile (Cingular Wireless). The marble used in the NY stock exchange annex, the statue in the Lincoln memorial, National Air and Space museum, east wing of the National Art Gallery, Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland, and Buckingham Fountain in Chicago all came from marble mines in north Georgia. Some of the info from Wikipedia, some from my own knowledge.Famous Georgians who might have contributed in some form..... I highlighted a few who caught my eye right off the bat, and this is not even a complete list. List from 50states.com. Conrad Aiken poet, Savannah James Bowie soldier, Burke County Jim Brown actor, athlete, St. Simons Island Erskine Caldwell writer, Moreland James E. Carter U.S. president, Plains Ray Charles singer, Albany Lucius D. Clay banker, general, Marietta Ty Cobb baseball player, Narrows Charles Coburn movie and TV actor, Macon Ossie Davis actor, writer, Cogdell James Dickey poet, Atlanta Mattiwilda Dobbs soprano, Atlanta Melvyn Douglas actor, Macon Pete Drake musician/record producer, Augusta Rebecca Latimer Felton first appointed woman U.S. senator, Decatur Lawrence Fishburne III actor, Augusta Henry W. Grady journalist, Athens Amy Grant singer, Augusta Oliver Hardy comedian, Harlem Joel Chandler Harris journalist, author, Eatonton Roland Hayes singer, Curyville Fletcher Henderson musician/songwriter, Cuthbert Hulk Hogan professional wrestler, Augusta John Henry Doc Holliday western hero, Griffin Larry Holmes boxer, Cuthert Miriam Hopkins actress, Bainbridge Harry James trumpeter, Albany Jasper Johns painter, sculptor, Augusta Bobby Jones golfer, Atlanta Stacy Keach actor, Savannah DeForest Kelley actor, Atlanta Martin Luther King, Jr. civil rights leader, Atlanta Gladys Knight singer, Atlanta Joseph R. Lamar jurist, Elbert Brenda Lee singer, Lithonia Juliette Gordon Low U.S. Girl Scouts founder, Savannah Carson McCullers author, Columbus Blind Willie McTell blues pioneer, Thomson Johnny Mercer songwriter, Savannah Margaret Mitchell author, Atlanta John Robert Johnny Mize baseball player, Demorest Jessye Norman singer, Augusta Otis Redding singer, Dawson Jerry Reed singer/songwriter/actor, Atlanta Burt Reynolds actor, Waycross Little Richard singer, Macon Jackie Robinson baseball player, Cairo Tommy Roe singer/songwriter, Alpharetta Billy Joe Royal singer, Valdosta Dean Rusk secretary of state, Cherokee Cty Nipsey Russell comedian, Atlanta Ray Stevens singer/songwriter, Clarksdale Janelle Taylor romance novelist, Athens Clarence Thomas supreme court associate justice, Savannah Travis Tritt singer/songwriter, Marietta Alice Walker author, Eatonton Joanne Woodward actress, Thomasville Trisha Yearwood singer, Monticello Perhaps you should culture yourselves a bit and come down and experience the south for yourself before you pass judgment. Or you could continue living with a 200+ year old idea of the south, but whatever floats your boat.

There's already a topic about the connection of slavery to the Southern secession and the Civil War. It would be great if you wanted to join it since there has been little to no opposition so far to the idea that slavery was the reason for both events. It was less than 200 years ago when the South fought to protect slavery. It was less than 200 years ago when they led the country in lynchings. It was less than 200 years ago when the Southern states led opposition to desegregation and miscegenation. And it was less than 200 years ago when Southern States showed some of the greatest support in the nation for denying homosexuals equality.

Here is something for your to digest. How come no one ever mentions one of the most infamous slave traders of all time was an African who enslaved and sold his own people? Tippu Tip - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. How come slavery is still accepted and practiced in Africa? African slave trade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. How many of you are wearing diamond jewelry right now? Do you know where the majority of diamonds come from? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...nd_output2.PNG. Guess what most of the diamonds collected from Africa are collected by slaves (or close enough they might as well be). But that is not enough reason for most people to stop buying diamonds and thus supporting slavery is it? Before you go off on southern states about gay rights here is something else for you to digest. Georgia has yet to even put it to a vote yet so we have neither confirmed or denied gay marriage.......so far. There is a fairly large gay community here and I would like to think when it does come to a vote it will pass (I'll support it anyways). Also on a side note look at the countries where homosexuality is actually illegal with punishment in fines or even death. LGBT rights by country or territory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. So consider that before you start generalizing and vilifying people you know little to nothing about.
