Does Obama still plan to cut NASA's funding? I know this was his plan earlier in the election but I have since heard that he has taken this back. However, I am unable to find confirmation right now that he has in fact gone back on this stance. Anyone here know? I came back to this issue after seeing something on my way to class this morning. Outside my Engineering building we have a statue of Neil Armstrong and beneath it in the cement are the famous word "Thats one small step for a man...". Benethe this, someone wrote in side walk chalk, "Obama opposes manned space flight". Having that sign infront of an Areospace Engineering building can put a huge hit on his popularity in my program.

Yeah, he's not making friends with Astrophysicists and Rocket Scientists (though at least he's not a young earth creationist), but I'm not against reevaluating the costs and benefits of some of our more ambitious space programs and putting them on the back burner for a bit while we sort out more pressing fiscal problems.
Both candidates are really "erratic" on this issue. Both accusing the other of wanting to cut NASA funding (depending on the audience, surprise, surprise, this comes out when either of them speak in Florida), while both have taken at times a pretty clear position that they would cut funding. McCain as part of his spending freeze proposal and Obama as part of his education funding proposal.

NASA has ambitious programs? Since when?
Thanks to Congress their budget is a joke, everyone's at the throats about the shuttle, the Station is behind schedule because of it, and the Constellation Program has already been delayed by 3 years. And if you don't think that's a problem, let me put it into some perspective. JFK made Moon landings the nation's goal in 1961, and gave NASA 9 years to accomplish it. The Constellation Program (America's return to the Moon) began in 2005, with the goal to return to the Moon by 2020. That's 15 years!!!

We lost the designs for the old lunar rocket and don't have any Nazi scientists to expedite the process now

I would measure "ambitious" by comparing the benefits of a program with the costs (including opportunity costs).

None of the numerous Obama supporters here have an answer? Come on. People here seem to know everything else about him. This is something I really am seeking an answer to.
