The central focus of US foreign policy is world domination and a Pax Americana. The takeover of Iraq, Jordan, Iran, & al was planned long before 9/11. This is not hyperbole or paranoid conspiracy theory. Military takeover and world domination, ideally through "total war" is the written, published and unambiguous underlying US foreign policy. We are exactly what we criticized the Soviets for being.
Don't take my word for it. Google: 'Rebuilding America's Defenses' or 'Project for the New American Century' and read the plans for yourself. (Sorry, my attempts at links never seem to work). I am not being paranoid. All this brouhaha about enemies and threats is pure propaganda. We are creating these threats by our actions on the world stage, then exploiting them to justify repression at home and interventionism abroad. We are creating enemies by manipulating foreign politics -- installing puppet regimes, maintaining military bases on foreign soil, invading and occupying. The easiest, quickest, least expensive way to eliminate this "imminent threat" from foreign powers, that the right wing is so terrified (and manipulated) by, is to eliminate its cause. Why are the citizens Iceland, Switzerland or Finland secure, prosperous and unafraid, despite being negligable military powers? -- Because they focus on their own citizenry and don't **** other countries off by meddling in their affairs! [Sorry about the rant, but the obtuseness of the American public really sets me off sometimes.] |

You know--every president to date has had his critics. No exceptions. And so far, as far as I know, they've all (?) been Christian, more or less. So it's easy to generalize and blame their mistakes and judgements on Christianity. But on the other side, this country has been pretty darn great for over two centuries. Should we credit that to Christian leadership?--maybe, I don't know.
But generalizations are awfully convenient. |

I agree that America is great, but it's all about perspective. If I was standing hooded on a box in Abu Ghraib with electrodes attached to my genitals or being waterboarded in Guantanamo I might not agree. |

The truly successful presidents didn't have to resort to manipulating and exploiting peoples faith and patriotism to sway the public.

Irrelevant. I hate what British governments did in this country for years but I love Britain and the British people.

Okay, I'll restate. What do the Germans and Japanese feel about the U.S. government, in light of the fact, that they could have been U.S. citizens today, had we taken ownership? |

Do you think that there was ever a real possibility of that?
