I have no problem with Ralph Nader, and I'm tired of Democrats' blaming him for their failures. If Al Gore had managed to carry his home state, it wouldn't have mattered that the Republicans stole Florida, and it wouldn't have mattered who voted for Nader. Instead of moaning about Ralph Nader, what the Democrats need to do is to offer a real alternative to the Republicans. They have steadfastly refused to do that by taking a genuine liberal or progressive stand, scrambling instead to do everything they can to appeal to the Republican base. Nevertheless, they may get lucky this year in that the Republicans keep getting worse and worse and the Democrats, try as they may, just can't keep up.

The Democratic base is what the current Democratic candidates are appealing to, not "genuine liberal or progressive" stances. The Democratic base is far more to the right than people realize.

I'm happy to see a third party candidate in the race, and I hope he and any other alternative party candidates will be invited to every debate. Ralph Nader is not the reason the democrats lost the last two elections. The reason they lost is because they ran terrible candidates.

Quote:
Greens and Libertarians alike are always muttering about the Republicrats and the lack of substantive difference between the two. Bush and Cheney have been so extreme that they drove a lot of people into the Democratic camp, but a lot of them are people who really aren't too happy with the Democrats, either.

Don't even get me started on Nancy Pelosi. She was a bigger disappointment than Bill Clinton. I mean, I understand what she's doing, I think. She wasn't out to lose any big battles between 2006 and 2008. But still ...

And now you understand why California has a budget problem. Great idea, America! Use CALIFORNIA as an economic model!
