Both. Freedom of religion necessarily includes being free not to observe any religion at all.

I don’t think it is one or the other. “…No law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” sounds like both freedom from and freedom of.

But if I am exercising my freedom of religion on the street corner, how can you be free from it? You do hear and see it right? So, you are not free from religion.

Atheists are not free from my religion in the same way that I am not free from their atheism. Are we really hurting each other? Maybe, but in order to co-exist, we must exercise some degree of tolerance, and we must obey the same set of laws.
