Are most homosexuals demanding understanding and acceptance of their homosexuality? Or is that just right wing spin designed to trivialize their efforts to obtain equal rights? Why or why not?

I have never heard a single homosexual/lesbian claim they demand for others to understand and/or accept them.

In fact, every time I have heard this line, it has been from those against same sex marriage as one of their desperate measure arguments against same sex marriage.

on a personal level, i certainly do... but that has never been fuzzed into the arguments for equal rights.

I'd be interested in seeing someone who actually believes that gays and lesbians are demanding everyone to understand and accept their sexuality to come and state their case, but I doubt any will because I suspect they know they are lying through their teeth when ever they say that...

What's wrong with demanding understanding and acceptance? Seems to me if the anti-homosexual group was understanding and accepting of this lifestyle, there would be less hurt in the world and people could move on to issues that actually affect them.

Sometimes, I think. But mostly, it's just trying to turn back the tide.

Because as the world turns and things get better for us, more and more people will come to see the anti-gay crowd for the bigots they are, no better than racists.

I don't care if people understand or accept me, I just don't want them to chain me to the bumper of their truck and drag me for 30 miles over Georgia roads.

I think it's a little of column A and column B, of course nobody wants to be misunderstood but nobody should be denied something they're entitled too either and, if same sex marriage is allowed I think acceptance from the population as whole would follow within in the decade and only the most homophobic people like the KKK will be foaming at the mouth about it.
