Very true! I was surprised (and impressed) by the level expectations for kindies these days. My daughter had reading goals and an an animal research project in kindergarten, including a written 'report' and oral presentation to the class!

My early-grade classes covered stuff at the level of "boys have a penis, girls have a vagina" and "if someone tries to touch you in a private place, say 'no', run away and tell your parents, your teacher, a police officer, or another adult you trust."
I think these days, a good helping of "you don't need to be skinny to be a good person", "if your parents don't live together, it's not your fault", and "some families have two daddies or two mommies" would be helpful too. And if they do a unit on how the body works, I don't think there's a lot of benefit in pretending that the genitals don't exist. |

I do not feel qualified to answer the OP. I believe that this should be decided by people who study human sexuality and child psychology for a living, not by those who wish to impose their views on what they think that children deserve not to know.

lol, that's not what I mean. Parents have every right to teach their kids as they need to. However, when we're talking standardized instruction in a classroom, it needs to be done from an impartial, scientific point-of-view.

At one time children learned about sexuality by sleeping in the same room as their parents, and many other extended family members.
What we are talking about here pertains to passing on health and safety information, and particular social mores. We don't need experts to avoid damaging our kids. added: apologies MNS; wrote this before I saw your reply.

My mom told me once that she remembers learning the names of colors and shapes in Kindergarten, so I believe Rick. But things have changed and advanced a LOT in the last forty years, and if a kid doesn't already have a basic understanding of such things by Kindergarten, then they're behind.
