Anti-Mormon Papers Circulating in South Carolina (Jesus Christ, ritual, Latter-Day Saints, moral)

Who's up to this dirty trick? I don't care if you're for against Mitt Romney, what's happening in South Carolina is not cool. The Spartanburg Herald Journal is reporting the following:

Less than a week before the Republican presidential primary debate in Columbia, a wave of anti-Mormon literature has hit select South Carilina mailboxes. The literature does not mention former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney by name, but is an indirect attack on him. Romney, considered by many to be one of the three GOP front-runners despite polling low, is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.The eight-page diatribe is titled "Mormons in Contemporary American Society: A Politically Dangerous Religion?" It calls Mormon texts "hoaxes" and labels church founder Joseph Smith a "gold digger turned prophet."

I think that one of the political campaigns or its supporters are behind this. It was bound to happen eventually. So, who is playing the dirty games. McCain? Guiliani?

All I can say is that somebody's running scared. Hopefully, most people will be intelligent enough to see through this nonsense. If not, well, we've dealt with it for 177 years now; I guess we'll just continue to deal with it.

I think you might be the most qualified to debate on this particular Thread if you want to. Through the years, I found the LDS church to be very pro-family and very conservative. Men abdication of their spiritual federal headship role is also common in some evangelical circles too. By the general LDS response, it appears the LDS church is more liberal than I realized. I could be wrong, but I'm not sure if LDS family men have a desire to discuss the LDS faith with evangelicals. There is a very big bridge between official LDS doctrine and protestant biblical Christianity. I believe we embrace different gospels and a different Christ. I knew this was coming because I read an article about ths issue six months ago. All of the Presidents of the United States have been professing Protestant Evangelical Christians with the exception of Kennedy. I believe the same issue of Kennedy being Roman Catholic will be the same issue of the LDS candidate. - BT

I see. So if they aren't Catholic or LDS, they are Evangelical? I anxiously await input from the Deists and Unitarians on RF. Or at least the Deist and Unitarian men and the Deist and Unitarian women whose husbands have given them permission to speak.
