You may trust the government with your health care. Me? I don't have that kind of faith. The government fails at everything they oversee or operate. The more we keep out of the government's hands the better off we will be.
Just my humble libertarian view of course.

Another great reason to elect Mitt Romney. He's the only candidate who actually did it.

It does seem odd that the US government spends more per capita on health care, even with a private system, than any other country in the world, yet has poorer outcomes than most western European, single-payer systems.

BOSTON, April 4 -- The Massachusetts legislature approved a bill Tuesday that would require all residents to purchase health insurance or face legal penalties, which would make this the first state to tackle the problem of incomplete medical coverage by treating patients the same way it does cars. Gov. Mitt Romney (R) supports the proposal, which would require all uninsured adults in the state to purchase some kind of insurance policy by July 1, 2007, or face a fine. Their choices would be expanded to include a range of new and inexpensive policies -- ranging from about $250 per month to nearly free -- from private insurers subsidized by the state. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...040401937.html It's not too hateful. At least it's done at the state level and it's only subsidized which only makes it a partial nanny state. I don't like the compulsory aspect of it though. I'd vote it down in my state were it presented to the people. But that's just me.

I'd rather have the government forcing people to take responsibility for their health care coverage than coddling them with the system we have now or systems like those in Europe, but that's just me.

you have to really look at how he did the universal health care thing it is brilliant -- in every state employees have choices of which plan they would like to have and they can choose different plans based on their needs and the contribution --
competition drives down prices --- extending the same options to families who have no insurance, small business owners the self employed, employees of these people etc. ---- they want to pay for health insurance but they cant afford it --- now if they have the option to purchase those same plans at a reasonable price -- why not?? its brilliant and it could work nationwide -- its not a hand out or a system like canada its private insurance at a price people can afford --- i have hope that one day this could be realized in every state we live in a managed care world --- manage the people who dont have access |

hmmm....
another view... http://www.fraserinstitute.ca/admin/...ngLess2006.pdf economically, the system is a pyramid scheme and will bankrupt itself if current trends continue. Canada only has 33 million people... imagine the drag with 300 million americans...

and the famous wait-time publication...
17 plus weeks to wait between seeing a general and getting to a specialist isn't THAT long right??? That is only 4 months...http://www.fraserinstitute.ca/admin/...es/wyt2006.pdf# don't forget to see page #37's graphs showing the downward spiral...

In a way we do have universal health care in this country. A hospital emergency room cannot refuse treatment to a person whose life is at risk even if they cannot pay. After treatment the person is given a bill but can make whatever payments on it they like as long as they keep paying. to finance this the hopspital raises costs to insurence and others. So we already have a form of universal health care. But is it the best system. I think not.
