Well, the thing is that before Mitt, and even now, the media doesn't do a lot of talking about Mormons. Most people don't know anything about Mormons, and there's a lot of misinformation out there. But, the difference between Mormons and Muslims in this case is that with the war, talk about Muslims is everywhere. When someone says something about Muslims on the news thats wrong, Muslims go on the news or write to the papers and correct them.
Now, that doesn't make it right, but that's my perspective on why it happens.

And, I distinctly remember getting a pamphlet and a church buliten of some sort when two young Mormons came to visit me.

A sad world. I remember watching the news when the rogue Warren Jeffs was crowding the airwaves. The fundamentalists had more air-time than regular Mormons.

The LDS leaders don't say much because if they say anything at all, they will be accused of formally endorsing Romney. That accusation would be pure nonsense, but it would be believed by a lot of people. The long-term effect would also be worse for Romney than this bigoted remark will be. People are rude, insensitive and uninformed. It has always been this way and it probably always will be. Romney is not running for the presidency as a Mormon. He's running as a Republican. Period.

Who said it's ok? I didn't know about it until yesterday, but today it was on Reuters, CBS, ABC, the Boston Globe, the Washington Post, the L.A. Times, and a host of other news outlets.

The church doesn't really respond to stuff like this, and I don't think they should. Sharpton claimed he wasn't attacking Romney's faith. I don't know if he's truthful (he isn't known for being truthful), but I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Instead of apologizing Sharpton has ramped up his critisizm of Mormons and claims that WE'RE the ones who are bigoted. I take back what I said and welcome the opportunity for people to show Sharpton that he's a moron. I'm glad that the country can finally have this discussion, get everything out in the open, and demonstrate what members of the LDS church really believe.

I read his explanation and it wasn't very convincing - rather convoluted. And at any rate, he should apologize for the "misunderstanding" instead of accusing Mitt of trying to make a thing out of this for political gain.

Oh, check Olbermann's site and you can probably check out the more tawdry aspects as part of the "Worst Person in the World" segment. Glenn Beck shows up there occasionally.
