In your opinion who was the last politician, either in his or her respected office or not, that really shone above everyone else as being exceptional?
Currently I have to go all the way back to Eugene Debs, but I'm probably missing a few people. Perhaps Morris King Udall (a shame he lost to Carter, and I'm a Carter fan).

Well I might as well draw some heat in this thread too.
Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan and Gorbechov. I also rather liked Anwar Sadat. Carter? Good grief. *dons patented RF flame retardent forum jumpsuit*

I only like Carter for his character and views, as a politician I think he's one of the worse the Democrats put up in the past 100 years.

ou have no right to say good grief when you suggest Thatcher Carter might be, to quote the Simpsons "history's greatest monster" but at least he wasn't the devil herself.

Hm....last, great politician. Isn't "great politician" an oxymoron? How about "statesman"? Is Jefferson taken already? |

John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton were great politicians who, I believe, cared about The People. It's politicians like Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter, that make politics a dirty and disgusting game. While I hated the policies of FDR, he was a great politician. I also have a great deal of respect for President Hoover.
But if we want to talk great politicians, I think we've got to talk about men like Washington, Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, and Polk. These were presidents that we could not have lived without.
