Gas prices are $2.25 in Manitowoc and $2.18 in Kenosha.

I expect gas prices to fall after Labor Day, not just because of demand, but because the refineries have more options as to where they send which blends. I do buy their line about how having a gazillion different blends makes the prices higher sometimes. I don't buy it's always that big a deal, but I do believe it makes some difference.

However, it is NOT customary for gas prices to fall by 33% within a week after Labor Day.

Atlanta always has the cheapest prices in the nation. I have no idea why that is. Well, I do have some idea: gas taxes in Georgia are rock bottom. And there are some distribution efficiencies as well. I live within a couple miles of a major, major fuel depot.

Very true, but then I doubt too many people in the UK have to depend on a car to drive them 60 miles round trip to work every day. That's a pretty normal thing here in Atlanta. And of course, we have little public transport.

If gas prices spiked too high or we had another oil embargo like the 70s, this city would shut down within days. One cannot say the same of UK cities.

You should see what it was like just after Katrina. whew, that was bad enough, and all it was was a consumer panic.

Thursday I bought for 1.98, today it is 2.04

It's around 2.25 here, I think. It used to be 3.41 during the summer.

I went on a "road trip" of sorts yesterday, and the highest I saw was about $2.50. I went through northern Georgia, North Carolina, and a tiny bit of Tennessee.

In my area the cheapest is $1.99. It's nice to be able to put $10 in a car and actually be able to get somewhere.

I doubt any political party is behind the scenes making oil companies dance like their little puppets, but I've been saying (only half-jokingly) that gas prices would go down come election time.
