Is is just me, or does it seem like alcoholism is being blamed for all kinds of truly awful behavior by right wing zealots these days. First Mel Gibson blames his anti-semitic rant on the booze. I've never known anyone to start puking up racist garbage after they've had a few unless it was already on their mind anyway.
Then Bob Ney claims his involvement with Jack Abramoff's influence peddling was the result of alcoholism. I've never know anyone to have a couple of drinks and suddenly come to in the middle of a golf game in Scotland at a five star resort paid for by lobbyists. Then Foley feels obligated to throw alcholism into the mix of excuses he offers today. It's understandable if these people really do have alcohol addiction. And if they do, I hope they get help and find the strength and support to kick it. But it makes one wonder how many of the other right wing zealots in government and media are simply the result of alcohol, drug addiction and seriously submerged psychological trauma that simply hasn't yet come to light. ![]()

I suppose alcoholism is the most acceptable vice among their base. That's the same everywhere you go. Muslim policians in Bosnia blame everything on their war experiences, Roman Catholics blame it on dealing with Orthodox Christians, Orthodox Christians blame it on frustration with Muslim nationalists.
Women blame EVERYTHING on men. Hajrija Ismic accepted bribes from a Saudi company and when she got busted, she said she didn't dare say no to a man?

Not only is there posturing for the sympathy and excuse angle, but they are now posturing for a blame angle...to try to save the day for the Republicans. In a statement by his lawyer, Foley has come out as gay, denying pedophellia. Enter Pat Buchanan who stated in an interview tonight that gays have a predisposal(40% of cases, as opposed to 60% of straight cases, which he did not mention, of course) toward pedophellia(he also didn't mention the incidence of recividism by vistims of such acts towards others later in life-no matter what oreintation and not any insult towards Djamila). Here comes Dennis Hastert saying that the information chain was messed up by a contingency of gay staffers and gay Congress members covering everything up and making him look bad.
We have had these talks before....but the sad thing is, the public as a while will buy this truckload of ***t. People connect gays with all these unreasonable despicable acts, and the Repugs are selling it all the way to the election. Foley is playing into those hands because of either trying to save himself or repay the damage he has done to the party. All the others are looking for some evil thing to blame their lack of action on...instead of themselves. This will get uglier before it goes away, and it will end up being more the gay and lesbian community that pays than Foley. The scene is set. This will not play out well. |
