My wife is from the Philippines. We met online. Chatted, emailed, and texted each other every day for two and a half years while we went through the all the red tape of getting her a visa so she could immigrate here.
It's insulting that people can just run across the border and get jobs here. Immigration is an expesive process and the wait is so long. Isn't the whole reason we have a country with borders is so we can keep other people out? This talk about granting illegals amnesty just doesn't seem right. The fence thing sounds even stupider. If only existing laws would be enforced. Take all the money for the fence and put together an organization who's sole purpose is to investigate and prosecute businesses that hire illegals. Or does something like that exist already and just doesn't work? |

At least you can sponsor your partner for citizenship and get her here, same gender couples do not have the same opportunity. So pardon me if I don't give a *bleep* about illegal immigrants. I'm not insulted by them, I'm insulted by my government's discrimination against binational same gender couples. My focus is on changing current immigration laws so that same gender couples have the same opportunity you and your wife did.

I brought her here on a K1 fiancee visa. One of the main requirements is that we got married within 90 days of her arrival in the US. Perhaps they don't allow same gender couples to immigrate because they currently can't get married here. Is the problem really with immigration or would that problem be solved simply by legalizing same sex marriages?

I agree with you kungfuzed -- I agree that we need to keep a better watch on who comes over.
People like your wife derserve their hard-earned work -- but then, the sympathetic side of me goes with those people escaping from real tragedy and I'm not sure where to go from there. ![]() |

That's actually a good law - get married within 90 days, but then there is those problems that girls will just come over here to get their green card. I'm sort of split or is it spilt (having issues spelling) on this issue. This is one thing I sort of dance on the fence about. |
