Maize's thread got me thinking...we really don't need just anyone to immigrate to the states. A filter system is not a bad idea. But some people think otherwise:

For my part, I'd rather not see this ban lifted. When there are so many people who want to immigrate here, why do we need to import those with communicable & life-threatening diseases? We don't. |

It's a tricky subject, Faint. Quite frankly, when it comes down to it, it comes down to 'discrimination' and the selection which goes against the principles of human rights.
Talk to ChriP (For example) - because I know what he once posted that got me thinking; "Countries should have no barriers, no boundaries; folk ought to be able to go wherever they please" Personally, I see that as containing too much of the 'idealist' scenario. But I understand his principle. HIV sufferers have a right to the better living conditions, maybe better health care, don't you think?

Right, because people with HIV don't have families who love them and shouldn't be around "normal" people.
What's next? Revoking those with HIV their citizenship and forcably deporting them elsewhere? Perhaps we should just round them all up and shoot them, then the "normal" people won't have to worry about them anymore. Afterall, people with HIV aren't human anymore anyways. ![]() What about the discriminatory laws against same sex couples sponsering their partners for immigration (which is what my thread was about)?
