Unwillingness to talk about it in the community, higher sexual activity rate among eligible males, due to increased odds of being incarcarated and sheer bloody stupidity and inhumanity among the people in our government who should've been working to prevent it.

AIDs, as we can read on other threads, was sent by a wise and loving God to punish gay men. Apparently, God doesn't like black people, either.

When I read that I thought you were talking about the 'eligible males'. Why is this the Governments fault?

I don't think the Gov. should be blamed for someone elses stupidity.

My apologies- I'd meant to phrase it "the sheer bloody stupidity'. The government and others of its ilk have enough stupidity without being blamed for the actions of others. However, studies like this and others indicate that the probability of being incarceratied has to do with ones race. When people of all races face the same probablity for going to jail for the same crime, I'll be a little less incensed about this issue. I also apologize for clouding the debate by venting on a marginally related topic.

Sorry, but that's the way it came off on this end of the net.

It all has to do with vectors of transmission, ultimately.

As for reasons why HIV is rampant in sub-Saharan Africa, it's a combination of many things: little access to medical care, people living on the edge of starvation so they're in a weakened state, cultures that don't respect women, lack of education, and in some cases, like Botswana, where the population has been cut in half, one of the issues is a purely generous nature. In some cases, there's a religious idea that gets in the way of using condoms, even though the other option is death.

I'm sure we've touched on this subject in some other threads here, pretty recently too, but darned if I can track them down at the moment.

A great number of people have HIV through no stupidity of their own.
