The HIV immigration ban is a good thing. (America, POV)

I don't think any evidence exists that shows someone with HIV immigrating to this nation would pose a threat to the general population. Unless someone can show evidence otherwise I do not understand the point in any further discussion.

Unless someone wants to expand it beyond HIV to other infectious agents which are highly communicable and would pose an immediate threat to the lives of entire communities. I would not have a problem barring entrance to a person carrying such an agent.

When you've got cretins with MDRTB who have to have someone come to their home on a daily basis to nanny them through something as simple as seeing a course of antibiotics through to the end living in your country, why the hell is something that's so much harder to catch a thing that needs to be singled out?
Tell me, those of you who think it's a good idea to keep the nasty HIV people out for your public safety...if the CDC gets it's way and introduces mandatory HIV testing for the entire population of the USA, will we be hearing cries of,'Violation of my civil liberties!' as we all shove our collective heads in the sand because it couldn't possibly happen to us, we've kept the boogeyman from our door by means of policy?

A “communicable disease of public health significance” is defined in the HHS regulations that cover the required medical exam for immigration purposes and includes the following 9 infectious medical conditions:

• severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)
• tuberculosis (TB)
• leprosy
• human immunodeficiency virus (HIV/AIDS)
• syphilis (infectious state)
• chancroid (STD, similar to syphilis and herpes)
• gonorrhea
• granuloma inguinale (STD, donovanosis)
• lymphogranuloma (STD, chlamydia)

Most communicable diseases are easily treatable. If the medical tests are positive for a communicable disease, the Civil Surgeon will recommend a course of treatment. Some medical conditions are not easily treatable. However, you may still receive adjustment of status by filing a waiver application. You are eligible for a waiver if:

• You are the spouse or unmarried son or daughter or the minor, unmarried adopted child of a U.S. citizen or LPR; or
• You have a son or daughter or lawfully adopted child who is a U.S. citizen or LPR; or
• You are eligible for classification as a self-petitioning spouse or child (including your derivative children) because of abuse.

Oh no, those horrible Americans who keep all HIV positive people out and have given them no way to get it! Oh me oh my!

Er, wait... No... they keep most people with STD's out of the country... Then again you can always fill out the waiver. =)

And what if the FBI did huge background checks on us, similar to the ones they give immigrants? Ah, what the hell... forget the background checks and medical tests immigrants get! We don't need that sort of thing. Any immigrant seeking US citizenship should just get all the laws and rights that Americans get right off the bat!

I believe every human being has a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, not just people lucky enough to be born on this patch of dirt. If people are denied their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness then yes, I think we should allow them to come to this country where they can live and pursue those things.

You should know this. I believe in the inherent worth and dignity of EVERY human being, not just Americans. Unless we know someone is coming here to harm people, then yes they should be allowed to come and pursue a life of liberty and happiness. I see no reason to keep out good people just because of where they were born.

I would like to note that I personally don't care if an HIV positive person comes to America. However, if my country decides that certain ones are not allowed or has some criteria that needs to be met then so be it.

I would also like to point out the fundamental difference I see between liberals and conservatives. Liberals make it sound like it's their duty to make sure that EVERYONE else has what they want, get rid of restrictions and let people do as they wish....at the expense of the people.

I've got news for you...we don't all get handed the same cards when we're born. Some of us are born into ideal situations and some of us are NOT. If you or I as a person want to be charitable and help those in need via donations or traveling abroad and lending a hand....knock yourself out. BUT DON'T expect my government to make all kinds of risks and spend all kinds of money supporting the rest of the world and trying to give everyone what we have. It's NOT possible.
