Depends on the state... I searched near my girlfriends house in Iowa and no pictures are given... In Chicago, however, pictures for everyone...

Each state gives the info to this site... so it appears its a state by state thing on if pics are given or not...

Though I do enjoy that one sex offender near my gf lives at 4 Shady Lane =)

Yea, someone who is convicted of child molestation shouldn't be allowed to live by a school... Though not letting them live near a bus stop seems to be pushing it... They wouldn't be allowed to live in Chicago =p

In the case of a very few crimes, such as pedophila, where the recidivism rate is so high, I'm having little problem with being on the list for life. For most other sex offenses, there should be some limitation. I'm not sure statutory rape should even be included, unless maybe the judge at sentencing sees some reason to think it should be in that particular case. A 40 yr old and a 14 yr old? OK. The case of your brother? No...that's silly. In another age, they would've just got married.

So while I do feel for those sex offenders who are not going to commit any more crimes in their lifetime, I also feel for those people who now live by sex offenders who are going to strike again.

My sister-in-law's brother commited incest with his 14-yr old step daughter when he was 30. Sorry, but he can stay listed for life.

I let my daughter stay with her cousins, but as "Uncle" has a habit of showing up at any time, I only let it happen in controlled conditions, like if my son is there also to keep an eye out. I don't think "Uncle" would try anything with my niece, because I'm sure he gets my brother would, quite literally, kill him. He might not feel such constraints with my daughter, though.

I've only met a few people in my life who made the hair on my arms stand on end, and he's one of them. I don't go on instincts much, but there are times...

As far as the bus stop thing, the courts put a hold on that due to the inadequate definition of bus stop location. I think the counties are in some period where they must definitively locate all bus stops right now, and that period ends soon.

Technically, anyone who gets drunk and urinates in the street in our lovely city on St. Patty's day could end up on the sex offender's list.

Another thing about the GA law though is that sex offenders can also not live near churches. I read a local article about this poor guy who actually lived at a missionary here...it was his home, his job, his rehabilitation center, and his place of worship and he was told that he had to get out. Where is he supposed to go? And how can the law prevent anyone from going to church?

There seems to have been a recent spurt of increasing pressure on people marked as sex offenders. I assume this another one of the ignorant moves by politicans due to the coming elections.

I can't find the article right now, but I know I have heard of laws that prevent convicted sex offenders from living near a bus stop. The law functioned in a way that if the bus top moved, which they often do, and it was then too close to the sex offender then they would have to move. This whole thing made me think that I really do disagree with the whole sex offender regestration idea. For one it is punishing people after they are supposed to have served their time in jail. There is also the fact that though people think of pedophile when they hear sex offender that there are many things on the list that are much less harmful.

People who need scape-goats to be better than, to build themselves up, like to 'mark' their scapegoats. It's part of the process of elevating themselves by demoting others.

On the other hand, we seem to have a legal system that has no brain, and is continually letting dangerous pedophiles and rapists out into the public to re-offend. So some of this is just society trying to protect itself. As with most things, right intentions are often accompanied by wrong intentions.

It's just part of the 'tao of man', I guess.

I seriously doubt that any non-pedophile-residents of Chicago would throw a hissy fit if child molesters weren't able to live in their city.
