Amazon founder Bezos donates $2.5 million to support gay marriage in Washington | The Ticket - Yahoo! News
For those who wish to boycott Chick-fil-A because of the stance of the CEO and it's funding of anti-gay organizations, are you planning on buying more from Amazon now? For those who support Chick-fil-A because of Cathy's statements against same sex marriage, are you planning on boycotting Amazon now? Outside of those stances, does the fact that multi-billion dollar corporations funding political movements bother anybody? Will this become a culture war fought at the corporate level with who will out-fund the opposition? If yes, how legitimate will the movement be? Or does the introduction of mega-cash-flow MAKE it more legitimate?

Amazon's founder happening to donate funds to a cause I happen to support does nothing to ameliorate their other... questionable effects.

Kraft Foods? Chrysler? Campbell Soup? Best Buy? . . . Just a fraction of companies that support same sex marriage.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. Bottom line, where I purchase things isn't determined by a company's stance on same-sex marriage. I don't care what their position on same-sex marriage is compared to their environmental ethics or support for local community.

They can have the fried chicken, we will have the books. If this continues they will end up fat, and we will be educated.
Or had this already happened?

Isn't it the president of the company and his wife, as private citizens, and not the corporation that is donating the money?
I don't have an issue with private citizens donating to political causes they support.

I started using Amazon after they dropped ALEC awhile ago. I still won't pay for anything from the Kindle Store though because of their DRM and limited licensing though.
As for companies and gay marriage there are several Indiana based companies, including Eli Lilly (a huge pharmaceutical company) that are urging lawmakers here to not take up a gay marriage ban partly because it will make the state less attractive to potential employees. Sometimes though to me a political stance of a company can sway my decision to shop there or not. It just depends on the issue and how important it is to me.

I have never made a purchase decision based on political stances of corporations. I do refuse to buy Starbucks because of their anti-American stance, but that's about it.
