And rusra02's reaction is very much in line whit that of the nutty priest I talked about in the OP.
I'm sorry, I didn't direct it at you, but to rusra02. I think you put the thread in the right place. And I think there's a wonderful opportunity to teach something of old traditions to a child here. Not goats. Porrige.

Probably not. It depends on your reasons for answering

Given the DIR, yes.

I must say I find your daughter's hesitancy to disbelieve altogether charming.

In fact, I feel something of that very thing myself every Christmas.

I think the desire to believe in such creatures is simply human and illustrates that we all have a longing for magic and fantasy to be real somehow if only real in the sense that these fabled beings are such an enjoyable part of our cultures and holidays.

I'd play along and suggest that maybe a single bowl of porridge isn't enough if she feels things are being moved about in her room. Maybe the poor nisser are looking for more.

Perhaps they feel her excited vibe around that time and want to become more involved then, because it will have a good effect. At other times perhaps she might be frightened, as if the house were haunted.

Make sure to leave your milk and cookies out when winter comes back around

As I understand it nisser are supposed to be the personification of the spitit of the house and household.
I hope my household does not manifest it self as evil blod demmanding spitits

But then again, now that I come to think of it a nazi once lived in this house.
He even made a dungeon downstairs, so who knows

So instead of placing gifts beneath a tree, you place them around the sacrificial alter, and instead of leaving milk and cookies, you leave a chalice of goat's blood. Just some minor alterations to the Christmas traditions.

Please continue your ancestral traditions of porridge sacrifice. One should only give four-legs after spirits have served you well for many years.
