I just can't understand why people would revere gods that have known characteristics. Sorry if I sound offensive.

Why would people worship a god that can't be discribed?
its all on how you view the nature of a god. wa:do

I've always found Egyptian Gods interesting. The whole culture is just fascinating. I know it's sort of stupid, but I like to watch Stargate SG1 partly because they frequently discuss the Egyptian gods.

there is a theory out that states that the so called myths of ancient egypt are not myths at all. that the "gods" were actual historical people. not just egypt but all of the ancient, ancient world. for example, the stories of these "gods" are very common to the degree of almost being the same story. it is very intresting.

To me, it's not that They have known characteristics. I'm a polytheist verging on monolatrist, and I do acknowledge a higher 'godhead' figure. The Names that are discussed here as the Egyptian Gods I see as separate deities underneath that Godhead. This Godhead doesn't have a name for me. Netjer is the best word I can use to describe it. For me in my path, while I worship all the Kemetic Gods, I work closely to building a relationship with three of Them, because They claim me as my Parents. Aset, Sebek and Djehuty I work with to grow close to knowing. I don't believe you can define Aset, Djehuty or Sebek as having known characteristics. They constantly surprise me. I can see you're trying to understand why anyone would choose to follow the religious beliefs of an ancient civilization, but or me, I have trouble understanding how someone could NOT believe in a supreme being of some description (atheists). My faith and my belief in my Gods is so ingrained in my oul that I can't imagine not believing in Them. So, in a way, I can understand where you're coming from. I hope I haven't sounded like I'm chastiing you, because I'm not. I'm trying to explain for you so that you'll be able to have a better time understanding this. I've posted my beliefs in the Paganism forum, which gives a much more detailed overview of how I view my faith and what it means to me to be Pagan. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have and I'll endeavour to answer them. I mean, that's what this place is all about, right? Learning about religion that you know nothing about? bright blessings, argent P.S. I love Stargate too. Fantastic show. Atlantis rocks!
