Default The Sabboth: Saturday or Sunday

My neighbor is a Seventh Day Adventis and invited me to attend a church. They meet on Saturday mornings and from their understanding the Sabbath is on Saturday, not Sunday. If the Sabbath is a Saturday, why do so many Christian organizations celebrate it on Sunday?

It is in observance of the empty tomb - a departure from the commandments

Replacement theology - the relentless and near vitriolic efforts of early Christians to excise all hints of Judaic practices from their predominantly Gentile sect.

When the early church was voting about what our religion should be like (under Emperor Constatine, who, by the way, was NOT christian) they decided to move it from Saturday to Sunday. This made things simpler to mesh with the pagan religions. Wow, every Sunday people sit in church basically paying tribute to the sun god. Sun being the key part of Sunday.

Hum, thanks pah, Deut.32:8 and Watcher....from what I think I hear you saying, the Sabbath is Saturday not Sunday. I am ah, stunned about this because Christians I know are so adamant about living the truth of the Bible and their beliefs and I am amiss that they would use the wrong day as the Sabbath. Am I missing something or doesn't it matter that the wrong day of the week is used?

Actually, the early fellowships of Christ had no set day to meet. They all went form house to house in meetings! Watcher is very correct in that Constantine set up a lot of rules for all religions to meet in his cities so he could keep an eye on all of them!
The fellowship in Israel meet on a Sunday the first day of the week to take up an offering, it seems this was taken as a time to meet and the rest is history! In the spirit we are to enter his "rest" and there is an eternal Sabbath of peace and rest that one can enter everyday!
Peace

Incedently PAH, I like your qoute by Carl Sagan. I know another famous person who was qouted after being asked if he believed in God, "I don't have to believe,I know"....
Carl Jung! Anyone can "believe" but to know God is a real experience.
Peace

No , not really . If you talk to your nieghbour , you will also find that they measure the day from sunset to sunset , not midnight to midnight . There has been many calendars and methods to measure time . The Bible says that Jesus stated that the Sabbath was created for man , man was not created for the Sabbath . So it doesn't really matter , does it ?

Lostinthisworld is an unknown quantity at this point
Default It does matter

It really does matter or it would not be written !
I think the true Sabbath is on Saturday not Sunday .
Also there is scientific proof that if you rest from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, that it is very good for the body and mind.
So I think that Saturday must be the true Sabbath.
So rest on Saturday, but pray and be with GOD everyday.
Makes sense to me !
As far as when you go to church, do not forget you are the temple ( SO KEEP YOURSELF CLEAN )
GOD bless

Great first part; I agree and haven't been able to state it that concisely. I have copied it for future use.

But then -- any religion saying that the Tanak is a holy book to them must be Jewish, no?
