Mostly I worry about my sincerity when addressing any deity. I have little experience with such beings, actually, but I have asked (kool-rhee)* to guide me toward self awareness. Mostly my votive offerings are simply to become acquainted, or as a proper respect when dealing with that deities aspects, for example to Brigid for the warmth of my modern "hearth", or to place spirits when crossing over a bridge or passing a downed tree.

*It has only been through oral teachings that I have a name for this deity, and thus I know not how to spell it, yet. Perhaps one with a greater knowledge of Irish, or insular celtic deities in general, could help me out.

I have called upon a number of gods, on a number of occasions. Thoth, Aphrodite, and a few demons here and there. I have stopped summoning demons since then, after all, they are treacherous little buggers who you don't want to become too attached to.

Call upon Amun, the god that hears prayers. And I also call upon Mother Kali in times of need. Athena who protects, and for the guidance of her wisdom, you see she bears the owl. My avatar.

I have a tendency to call upon the Greek Gods for different purposes. I have called upon Zeus, Hermes, and Athena to name a few. I try not to limit myself to just one pantheon but it just seems to work out that way. I have called upon Norse and Egyptian pantheons as well.

I'm not sure if I could handle being limited to one pantheon! I love too many gods and goddesses to do that! *grin*

I like lots of other gods... but "love" is a strong word; and just because we like other gods, doesn't mean we need to worship them. It's kind of like football. I always root for the Buffalo Bills, but I like lots of other teams and players (especially if they are Va Tech grads). The Norse gods are the ones I live with... I'm perfectly fine with lots of other gods... they just aren't "mine".

When you call on Gods do you refer to them personally or just as an elemental force?

I don't call on Gods. It just seems a bit too dangerous for me. Humans are unpredictable enough, why should I try it with something much more powerful?

I usually call on Gaia. I have some odd connection with her and that makes me want to pray to her. The other Gods who I have called on are Athena, Zues, and Demeter. I acknowlage every God who people believe in. If I do tell people that I pray for them, I address the prayers to the God or Gods they worship, unless I don't know who they worship or if they don't worship any pantheons.
