"Why Wiccans Suck" article (faith, Christianity, Christians, Christ)

I know this article has been around more than a few times, and I just wanted to get opinions on it.

Ugh. Just ugh. That's all I can say about anyone who brands an entire group together. I particularly didn't like the condescending nature of it. "(Wow, you finally read a book? Maybe two, even?)"

I did manage to get through the article to the bottom of the page, wherein the disclaimer states
"I REPEAT:
I have no problem with Wicca.
It's the Wiccans I can't stand."

That's nice. Right about as non-biased as "I have no problem with Christianity. It's the Christians I can't stand."

I don't claim to be Wiccan and never have, but I can't see this as anything other than anger.

I read that site years ago..mabye 4 years agoish and I found/find a lot of wisdom. Every person with a belief system has a motive that creates their "belief engine" and he is articulating on some of the sore spots of the Wiccian practiners. I live in Austin and wicca is very strong here. I have personally met dozens of wiccians in the last 10 years and have to say by a far it is such a peacful caring loving religion but I have noticed a bit of eveyrthing he has mentioned in there.

The quanity is severly dimished to what one might expect given the emotion tied to the article but still present nonetheless.

What I carried away from the article is that every faith is made up of believers with varying motitives in that faith and the motives do not change from faith to faith only the faiths.

Just as people find Christian fundies who are drastic and Muslism who propogate hate on behalf of Allah Wiccians have their small share of "fundies" who have used their conversion as a tool to further a personal cause or manufacuted "verbal battle".

The nice thing though is that the most extreme of any Wiccian you will meet will at worst have a sharp tounge and an abrasive personality as opposed to a Muslim or Christian with a gun and a death wish.

It is what happens when we start defining things too much , IMHO. The more one defines what something is , the more they define what it is not , if that makes any sense ? Anyway , one ends up in a very small world ....

It is like my "is religion like a toy" theory. When we start putting definitions on things, we start to put more emphasis on the tiny details to bring out our selfishness, greed, and hatred.

Hate language is right. Just sounds to me like they believed themselves to be the only "true Wiccan they knew of and thusly decided to rebel against it as a whole. What immaturity.

I used to be Wiccan. Used to be. It's important to note that I moved on to other things a few years ago. And below are a few of the reasons why I left.

The article reminds me very much of the punk-rock purists/elitists who moved on "coz the scene's a dump man, it's like, all these kids, and sell-outs, and posers who think they're punk but they're like SOOOOOOO not". In punk-rock anyone who;
a) makes money
b) wears fashionable gear
c) can dance

Is labeled by the purists as the enemy.

Anyway, why would you drop your religious beliefs because a few people misunderstand?
