Anyway, why would you drop your religious beliefs because a few people misunderstand?

You deserve many frubals for that, but I have to spread them around first.

I've seemed to be dealing with this a lot lately (well actually it's the indie rockers, or whatever you call them, but same thing) but never thought of how well it fits in with the way Wicca is.

Sort of a "How can you like that band? They're total sellouts!"
"Why?"
"Because they're popular!"
"But they're good..."

When someone doesn't want to call themselves Wicca, because of all the bad sterotypes that come with it, but in reality, isn't that in itself perpetuating the sterotypes? I mean, if there's no good example...

Though he's harsh and biting, some of what he says is valid. He is not dissing all Wiccans. He's dissing the teenagers who take up Wicca to **** off their parents and don't know anything about the religion.

Thanks for that, Jensa. If I'd been directed to the front page (or completely read the FAQ, which I should have done), I would've seen that, and not been bothered at all.

Because I try to look for the good in people, MD_88, I'll imagine that that's what you were referring to.

And there is a big difference ? Where ?

Sorry C1 and others who see these people as doing more harm then good , but everyone has to start somewhere . This all goes back to Buckland , or perhaps even farther ? Many thought that he moved too slow . Many thought that he was right , taking his time and only accepting those who proved their desire to follow Gardner's teachings . Fair enough . Each are entitled to their opinions . But I ask , isn't this what happens when a religion gets too formal ? Look at other religions and how they have broken into sects . Is that what Wiccans want for their religion ?

It's not a matter of it breaking up into sects, it's a matter of knowing where Wicca originated and its history, the good and the bad, before prancing around and calling oneself a Wiccan.

Which is why I don't like tags Jensa . Please don't get me wrong here . I do understand the concerns about getting the correct image across . But isn't that something any group faces ? Like I said , everyone has to start somewhere .
