Outside of opera I think Mike Patton has a great voice. There are so many great singers it's too difficult to name one the best. Most that I like are from the past. Steve Walsh, Marvin Gaye, etc.

Just so I don't sound like a total opera queen, I'll highlight some other candidates who I'd like to put forward from outside the operatic sphere. Freddie Mercury had a voice I have always loved. Stevie Ray Vaughan had a wonderful voice too, perfect for blues. Marvin Gaye I love, and also Freddie King from his "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" days. Freddie also rocked on guitar!
