I am sitting here quietly stunned.
Herbie Hancock just won the best album of the year award at tonight's Grammy Awards. As but a rather average jazz pianist myself, I am deeply moved to see Herbie respected and appreciated at such a pop culture mainstream event. It always saddens me to see the truly wonderful & accomplished musicians of the world under-appreciated and passed by in favor of the day's high production pseudo-music fads and pop idols. And this is consistantly and regularly the way of the world. The REAL musicians are rarely recognized by the world at large. While I have not yet heard "River: the Joni Letters" It sounds like a truly artful endeavor of depth. And what else would I expect? That a TRULY great and accomplished musician such as Herbie might actually win such an award is to me a sign of hope, and also proof that mass witnessed miracles are in fact a thing of REALity.
